Although it originally housed the Council Chamber, courtrooms, municipal and legal offices, the building now operates solely as a courthouse. The old city Council Chamber is now courtroom 110 and retains much of its turn-of-the-century decoration.

Following the opening of Toronto’s fourth, and present, City Hall in 1965, Old City Hall was threatened with demolition during the planning of the Eaton Centre. A group of concerned citizens and community activists called, "Friends of Old City Hall", convinced the city to preserve this important landmark, that complemented Osgoode Hall and the new City Hall. Old City Hall was declared a National Historic Site by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada in 1989.

“Wow Babe, that is so cool, I can’t wait until we see it. That is the great thing about Toronto they have a real downtown where you can visit everything”. 

Both women head down to Bay Street and head north to Queen Street towards the city hall.  They arrive in no time, Tina turns to Bette, “Babe, if this is the old city hall what do they do with this beautiful building now?”

“Well I am glad you asked, this is where they do a lot of legal proceedings now, and that is why I brought you here this morning” Bette says with a devilish grin, she is no longer nervous.  Much more confidant now and she cannot wait for Tina’s expression.

They both enter the old building and Tina sees that Bette has a form in her hand, “Babe, what is going on, I didn’t notice that form before, what are we doing here?”

Bette smiles with no response to Tina, Tina follows her to a counter with her folded paper ready for the government official.

Just then Tina stops following Bette and realizes what is going on…. could it be, that Bette can surprise her with something so wonderful in such a short time span.  Bette kept the “Horse and Carriage” from her and now, she is doing it again,

“Babe, is the third time a charm”

Bette takes Tina’s hand and moves her to the counter with her.  Bette brings Tina close and whispers, “Yes T… the third time is a charm and it is legal in Canada.  We are getting married again.  The first time we married it was a promise to ourselves to love each other and it was to God in that little chapel in Las Vegas, the second time, our love was witnessed by our family and friends and this time it is for ourselves in front of the courts.  We have married from our hearts, and our family and friends, and now in the eyes of the law, we are abided by the same laws as heterosexual couples”.
