Ashes, ashes… Chapter 22
Tina was pouring her second cup of coffee when she heard keys rattling in the front door. Moments later,
“Good morning Darling,”
“How’d the airport transport go?” Tina asked, taking another mug from the cupboard.
“Winnie and I have got it down to an exact science. It’s unfortunate that it required a divorce for us to work so well together,”
“Any regrets?”
“About the divorce? Are you mad?”
“No. Just… wondering. Did you ever think of giving your relationship another try?” Tina sat across from
“The thought of reuniting with Winnie has never crossed my mind. But the fact remains that we have two beautiful children. And the one thing we’ve always managed to agree upon, was putting their needs above our differences. Fortunately, being capable and loving parents did not require us to continue our abysmal marriage,”
Tina nodded, lost in thought as she considered
“What brought on that rather curious question?”
“I guess I’ve been thinking about relationships and why they end. And how you can tell when they’re really over,” Tina shrugged, sipping her coffee.
“Nothing is more indicative of the end of a relationship than a lack of empathy, typically evidenced by an inability to put the other person’s needs ahead of your own,”
“Wow. You make it sound almost…scientific,” Tina said, raising her eyebrows.
“Sorry, Darling. I don’t mean to take all of the poetic angst out of lost love. But frankly, at least in my experience, that’s what it’s come down to. It’s an insidious little process, really. Day by day, bit by bit, you lose faith that the other person is looking out for you. You begin to worry that your needs aren’t getting met. And, as a result, you spend more time looking out for yourself.”

I love this story, thank your for another great chapter
Oh Good Lord. Tina could have gone the rest of life without hearing that from Helena. However, if B&T never got back together, I find Helena’s personality much like Bettes. How long would it be before Tina began feeling the same way she does toward Bette? Then, I think, who would I match Bette up with. To be perfectly honest, I could see Shane and Jenny together. That leaves Carmen, whom I think would be great with Bette. Both are real hotties and, Carmen is strong enough that she wouldn’t take any of Bette’s crap. Another great chapter….thanks.
I’m glad that Helena managed to get that out before Tina contacted Bette. Tina has to know that she has options and should do what is right for her, and perhaps, in this story, the right thing is for her to talk to Bette, forgive her and help her move on while moving on with her relationship with Helena.
It’s your story and you do whatever you like with it, but you’ve sure put a lot on Tina’s plate. And I feel like I’ve swallowed a rather large bone. I now give the universal “I’m choking” sign. Please call the paramedics for me.
I think it would be much too easy for you to explore an intimate relationship between Helena and Tina than to try and reunite Tina and Bette in a fresh and unique way. Your challenge is obvious. Don’t be a wuss.
u r so wrong for leaving us like that!!! waitin for u next post hopefully soon ;-)
Oh my, Tina don’t fall for her, you’re jsut friends with her. you’re in love with Bette, please contact her. Okay, great chapter, please post soon
Oh F**k it a night of torment on the FF tell Tina to tell Helena I cant I love Bette and need to see what happens
This is my favourite fic on the site. FFC, you’ve written and developed the Helena/Tina relationship so beautifully and their connection is so tangible and believable. You’ve got me rooting for Heletina! I love your Helena! I echo others when I say IC needs you on her staff! Thanks for another outstanding chapter!
I had two thoughts: 1. ““But our story line has always been that she is the passionate, dramatic one and I’m the calm, reasonable one.”” – I’m the ‘Bette’. I’m glad I have a ‘Tina’ at home to provide balance…2.: This story is sounding more and more like Pikagirl. Helena=Dani and Tina=NewTina. My fellow Tibetters, brace yourselves, you may not like where this ride is gonna take you!
Oh my God, I know this story will give me an heartache… But I still hope in a TiBette reunion even if it won’t be that easy,’cause THEY BELONG TOGETHER!! Anyway love the story, great chapter, looking forward to read more.
ha that was obvious that Helena would say that..she knows Bette is a threat. humm will Tina choose the easier way..starting with Helena or the hard way trying to work things out with Bette ?? Well lets wait and see what will happen…
You evil woman! Leaving us all hanging like that! Any chance you can post the next chapter within the next five minutes? *g*I’m glad Helena had the courage to tell Tina her feelings. It takes a lot of courage to do something like that. Thanks again for another wonderful chapter, ffc. Ilene Chaiken could learn a lot of things from you.
Loving this story. How about Tina dating both? Make it really complicated.
“I’ll always love Bette,” Tina said with certainty. “But,” she added, “sometimes that’s not enough.”Exactly…Love was enough for Bette to stay and work it out with Tina. Although i am a tibette fan i just can’t see them back together. Even though if you went that route a part of me would be happy. I also don’t see a Tina and Helena pairing again. Helena should just be there as a friend. Great chappy!!!
I will always love Bette and Tina together, but sometimes love just does not work out that way. Sometimes life gets in the way and all you have are your memories. I hope that they can at least sit down and talk about those feelings and the death of their Angel.
oh damn…and here i was, hoping that after last chapter that things look better…and you just threw us this twist…i think love is enough if both partners are willing to work it out and berfore tina makes any kind of commitment or response to helena, she should hear bette out…i’m most definately depressed now…but i do love you writing so very much
Love this story. I actually like Helena. Thanks for another great chapter
oh god. *shaking head* this is just painful and beautiful. thanks.
Quite a bit your Tina has to deal with now. The terrible loss of her daughter, separation after a difficult reconciliation, a pending confrontation with an ex and now a declaration from someone who initially presented just as a source of support. Thanks for writing.
I always look out for this story. I love the pace of it. You are very perceptive. I really like your writing.
great great great chapter. I do hope Tina will let Bette talk to her because I want to know what Bette has to say – selfish of me I know but there you have it.
Oh dear, I think I heard a shoe drop.Ok, I’m hanging in, but only because your writing is so wonderful.Has Ilene called with a contract yet?
Helena did the right thing in sharing her feelings. Can’t wait to read how this turns out. Life is messy and this plot is full of life. Whether Tina chooses Helena or Bette or neither of them…all three have alot of work a head to find themselves and improve their relationships. FCC you are a beacon on this site and your light shines brightly.
Oh fuck, Helena not now, don’t have time for you. This is about Bette and Tina and let see what’s next, thanks!
Helena’s discourse on the demise of a relationship was simply perfection. It should be embroidered on wall hangings instead of the typical “Bless this House” stuff. I’m counting on your story to keep me sane during the TV S3. This chapter is my favorite so far. You are an amazing writer. Thank you for sharing your gift.
argh..finally she spit it all out. dang..nooooooooooOoo..!
“Nothing is more indicative of the end of a relationship than a lack of empathy, typically evidenced by an inability to put the other person’s needs ahead of your own,” … that line is so true & it hurts to read it…. oh I so hope you’re not going where I think you are. :(
oh, the suspense! i’m so hooked, i just want tina to do what’s right for her, regardless of who she ends up with.
FFC,Have just caught up of the last few chapters and WOW what a difference a conversation with a Peabody can make. This tale has real heart and soul; every tender and tortured emotion is wrung out for full effect. The disintegration of Bette and Tina’s relationship has been soul destroying and bought me to tears. Thank you for writing such a realistic portrayal of the most heinous and cruelest of event that life can throw at you; the loss of a child will never be completely overcome but it can be faced and worked thorough.Bette and Tina’s relationship collapsed because they could not communicate so I hope that they can slowly rebuild it and resolve their issues. As a major B&T fan I want this to rekindle their commitment to each other but given your talent I am happy to follow along if Tina decides to embark on a future with Helena as I know the journey will be beautifully crafted.I do like this warm and fuzzy side to Helena.Much gratitude for this terrific tale so please post more real soon.Your Loyal Fan (even though a bit of a lurker lately)
I concur with robbeedee.
