Angels Never Came Down 10
"So what now?"
Tina shrugged as she changed into a clean shirt. She was pissed that the pair of jeans that she had wanted to wear had gotten wrinkled in the suitcase.
"Well, once we get to West Hollywood, we’re gonna have to go our separate ways. I’m gonna try to find Jenny."
"The girl who ran out on you? Haven’t you fogotten her yet?"
"No way. We had those two wonderful perfect weeks and she did say if I’m ever in LA, I should find her. So, I’ll find her."
Tina didn’t have the heart to tell Max that Jenny had probably already forgotten all about her. She tried to soften the blow to her friend. "Look, Max, you know she was just on vacation when you met. She probably has a whole ‘nother life here. When people change locations, even for just a couple of weeks, sometimes it’s easy to forget where they came from. But when they return, it all comes back."
"Like what happened to you, huh?"
Tina shrugged again and tried to flatten the ugly wrinkles on her jeans.
"Well I’m still gonna try to find her. I got a feeling she and I were meant to be together."
"Ugh. That’s corny, dude."
Max got up from the bed where she had been lounging and went to Tina. She timed it just right, and when Tina bent to tie her shoes, Max went for a head flick.
"Shit!"
"Sorry, man. I forgot you didn’t have protection for that hard head of yours." Max was not at all sorry.
Tina rubbed the back of her head.
"Seriously, T, you better think about your next move. She’s not gonna fall from the sky right into your lap, ya know?"
"I know. I’ll figure it out."
"You’ve been saying that for a month. Ever since you got the idea to come back here, you’ve been ‘figuring’ it out. When are you gonna formulate a plan?"
"Hey, having no plan has worked for me so far, right?"
Max made a face and picked up her bags. "Listen, T, I’m just sayin’, when you find this Bette person, you better have a Plan A, a Plan B, all the way to Plan Z. I got a feelin’ it ain’t gonna be easy."
Tina pushed Max out the door and picked up her own bags. She took one last look at the motel room and quietly shut the door. "I know it’s gonna be hard as hell." Tina whispered. "But I hope it will be worth it."

"Bette, come home early tonight. We’re going to Dana’s housewarming, remember?" Alice tugged Bette’s brown curls free from the collar of her white jacket.
"I remember. I’ll probably be home by 8, if traffic’s not bad." Bette waited patiently as Alice made sure her outfit was perfect. "Alice, my jacket will not get any whiter even if you keep brushing it." Bette chided good-naturedly.
"I know, I know." Alice kept brushing her hands over Bette’s shoulders. She enjoyed touching Bette like this, doing something, anything, for Bette. It made her feel necessary. Alice quickly shook that thought out of her head.
"Right. Well, I better get going." Bette stood awkwardly.
Alice looked down and tugged at Bette’s cufflinks. Bette cleared her throat. When Alice peeked up, Bette kissed her on the forehead.
Alice laughed and swiped at where Bette’s lips landed. "I’m going to be walking around with a big lipstick mark on my face, right?"
Bette laughed and turned to go.
Alice grabbed her arm, spun her around, and kissed her on the lips. Bette smiled into the kiss. It was the first morning with Alice that she did not start with a re-reading of Tina’s letter. It was a good morning.
"Go! Go! You’re going to be late."
"By Al. Have a good day at work."
"You too."
Bette stepped out the door. "I love you." She threw over her shoulder, just before closing the door behind her.
Alice stood there, not sure that she heard Bette right. Did she just say "I love you"?
Alice hummed happily as she cleaned up the kitchen. She had to leave for work soon but even the thought of her dead-end job didn’t dim her joy. Bette loved her. For real.
Alice did a happy dance all the way to the bathroom for her shower.

Sorry Alice but Tina is back and B&T need to be together!
Well Alice, hope you are not too disappointed but, your joy hopefully will be short lived. Tina is back! And I hope Bette will be happy to see her. Of course, their worlds will be turned upside down for awhile but I hope it will be for a very short period. This is getting very interesting. Thanks for posting.
Oh boy.. It’s gonna be a rollercoaster ride for Tina and Bette. Max is right! She better have a Plan A-Z.. Hope Alice won’t be too sad that she’s standing in the way of B/T destiny! Thanks for posting. PPS. =)
And I need to be commenting on the chapter… Max is right, Tina better have a lot of plans, and back up plans for those plans. I’m kind of happy for Alice… I don’t know what’s going to happen to her should Bette’s attention, so newly-gained by Alice, be instead re-focused to Tina’s return. I want to see what happens next, over several, several chapters, yeah? ;) Thanks, 7! :)
uh-oh. why do i feel like tina’s come a little too late? bette’s letter throwing ritual certainly scored big points for alice already. and now this ‘i love you’? does it even matter now how bette actually feels for tina or alice? she would have to be really cruel if she chooses tina now. what a mess. wat could have happened if tina arrived a week earlier? guess we wouldnt have too much of a story eh. i do come here for the mind candy 7. but i want my mind candy well-written of course. waiting for the next chapter. :)
But 7, a quick resolution = the story coming to a quicker end. I don’t want that… Conflict and ambivalence, those are just part of life, aren’t they? There’s not much of a plot without some sort of conflict. I like happy endings as much as the next person, but the payoff is better if that happy ending is earned. I trust you as a writer to show how they might earn it, and I’ll enjoy every word of it. Just not too quick, eh? ;)
i’m one of those people who love happy endings but how the story got there is also important, i’m all for the conflict and ambivalence, that’s part of the story (but of course, happy ending would make it even better LOL)
forgot to mention: Tina really needs many plans if she’s hoping to win Bette back…i don’t want Alice to get hurt but maybe Dana will be there for her and we get happy endings for everyone? too much hope for this? LOL
Ouch… I’m anticipatorily (I don’t think that’s a word. It should be, but I’m getting a squiggly red line) hurting for Alice. I kinda agree with rubber duckie, if Bette were to choose Tina, it’d be pretty cruel. Also, I want to hit Tina. Hard. She seems to be way too oblivious to all of the devastation she left behind… she wasn’t much of a best friend, was she? And now she thinks she can come back and the world will just align itself for her to reclaim a person she hurt so badly such a long time ago. Maybe just a rolled-up newspaper on the nose? :D Thanks, 7, PPS!
oh- i think u shuld leave Al and Bette together if they r happy; otherwise there’s going to be a hell of a lot of hurt and no one will end up in a good space…otherwise bring on a miracle like Dana maybe.
Oh dear! Why do i think that Alice is not going to hear that again.
This may not be a popular plot line, but I think it is fantastic! I am so interested in discovering this Tina, and how Bette reacts to the major changes in her friend. Thank you…I hope you find your direction and keep writing this. It is a breath of fresh air. Thanks!!
It isn’t all that often that I think of Max as being the one making sense, at least when it comes to Tina. (In Max’s case, SHE ought to have a Plan B that amounts to ‘forget Plan A.)
