    Angelica & the Artist – Chapter 3

“I really didn’t mean to pry.”

“I know…it’s OK…really.” Lyndsay looked down at her hands, and began to relay her desire to one day have a family of her own. “To answer your question, yes. Yes I would like to have a family of my own one day, but I don’t think that is going to happen.”

    “Why not?”

“Well, I’m single, in my late 20’s, and currently have very few prospects back home of becoming involved in a relationship….a fact that drives my parents crazy in all honesty.”

    “You mean with a man?”

“I’m not really sure what I mean to be honest. Yesterday when you shared that you had dated both men and women, I was very surprised. I don’t know anyone who would readily admit to that, even coming from a liberal part of the country in North Carolina.” Lyndsay continued to look anywhere but directly at Angelica. “I don’t fully understand what it is about being with you that makes me so unsure of myself. I have always thought of myself as a confident person, and yet, if I am honest, I find myself so unsure of the feelings that I am having when I am near you.” Pausing for a few seconds, She continued on….”Last night when I got back to my hotel, I hate to admit this, but I had a hard time going to sleep.”

“Really? I did too.” Came Angie’s honest response.

The artist was surprised, she finally looked up at Angie and then continued on. “Angie, last night when I got up to leave, and you placed your hand on my arm, I felt this jolt of electricity go through me. It was something that I had never experienced before with anyone.”

Angie looked into Lyndsay’s eyes and stated in all sincerity “Just so you know, I felt it too.”

Lyndsay was surprised at this revelation from Angelica. She thought for sure it had only been a one way thing.

“It is rather unsettling, because I have never had feelings for a woman before Ang, and I just met you yesterday afternoon, yet I feel this connection to you, like I was supposed to meet you for a reason.”

The fact that her touch had made Lyndsay uncomfortable worried Angie, so she tried to put her new friend at ease by saying

“You know, I’m sorry if that upset you or made you feel uncomfortable, but I truly believe that when two people find each other attractive, that they should pursue it, regardless of their gender. I was brought up to believe that the most important things in a relationship were trust and honesty. I will admit that I do find you attractive Lyndsay. You are a very beautiful woman, but I would never intentionally do anything to make you feel uncomfortable. If my touching your arm yesterday did that, then I am truly sorry, for that was never my intent.”

The two stared at each other for what seemed like a very long time, then each returned their attention to their meals, and they continued to eat in silence. They finished eating, then paid the bill. As they left the restaurant, Angie asked where Lyndsay was staying and if she would like to share a cab ride back to their hotels. They were staying very near each other, so they proceeded to share the ride back to Lyndsay’s hotel as it was first on the way back. Neither woman spoke much on the trip back.

Once they arrived, Angie paid the driver and they got out of the cab. She turned towards Lyndsay and before she could say anything, the question that come forth from her new friend was one that Angelica did not expect to hear.
