Anatomy of a Breakdown chapter 1 continued

The ringing of her phone wakes her from her dreams. She reaches to the other side of the bed and is for a moment disoriented. ‘Where am I?’ She lifts her head with realization that she is not home and Tina is not in her bed. She reaches blindly at the side-table; she grabs the phone but doesn’t open her eyes to see who is calling.

    “Hello”

    “Bette what the fuck?”

    “Hi Kit.”

“Baby girl don’t hi me. Where are you? I’ve been calling for days. I went to your house and you weren’t there. Everyone is worried.”

“I’m fine Kit obviously still alive. I just…” The words hang in the air as she tries to find a more reasonable explanation for her disappearance. “I just needed some time to myself.”

“That’s what scares me Bette.” The words cut through her. She has caused enough pain. “Are you going to come back? I mean are you just going to hide forever?”

“I’m sorry Kit. I didn’t mean to worry you but I just needed time to clear my head and I couldn’t do it there. I’ll be back soon I promise.” The truth was she couldn’t clear her mind anywhere. Tina dominated her mind and her dreams.

“I’m just glad you’re okay,” Kit’s voice cracks, “ The girls miss you. Shane is worried sick. Maybe you could call her, let her know you’re okay.” Shane found Bette in the pool that night. She had never fully explained to Shane exactly what she was doing floating in the water as she was.

    “I miss my life Kit.”

    “I know you do.”

“I have to fix this.” The tears begin to crowd her eyes; they begin to fall one by one. “I’m going to fix this Kit, even if I die doing it.”

“She will come around Bette. Tina loves you.”

    “I don’t understand why.”

“Don’t do this to yourself baby sis. Let her have the time and forgive yourself.” Forgiving herself was no easy task Bette had been the one that turned to someone else for comfort. She did not see any reason for Tina to forgive her unless Tina could find it in her soul to know Bette’s true heart.

    1. Very interesting…wish we would have got a little of that on the actual show, you know the reconnection and all those missing pieces like you’ve started here. PPS

    2. So glad your Bette had the courage to be honest about her feelings with Tina. I found it so frustrating that we never got to see them talk to each other. Thanks for the post.

    3. I like this. I have always wanted to read a story that took place after the pool incident. We were left with Bette floating in the pool after coming home and finding tina’s stuff gone. i’m looking forward to seeing where you take this.
