A Single Mom Meets Someone New Ch 96
Tina flipped through the channels on the TV. Bette sat next to her with Tina’s legs in her lap.
“So Mary called me today.” Bette said.
“Oh yeah, what did she want?” Tina asked.
“She knew Gillian broke curfew last night and wanted to know what was going on with her.” Bette said.
“What did you say?” Tina asked.
“I told her about everything.” Bette said.
“Oh.” Tina said.
“You aren’t paying me a bit of attention.” Bette said. Tina put the remote down and looked at Bette.
“I’m always paying you attention.” Tina moved closer to Bette.
“Oh yeah what did I just say?” Bette asked.
“You said that Mary called and you guys talked about Gillian.” Tina leaned in and kissed Bette.
“Mmm that’s a good guess.” Bette said.
“It’s guessing that I’m good at.” Tina kissed Bette. Bette kept Tina from pulling away this time.
“Do tell.” Bette smiled.
“I think we better take this upstairs.” Bette grinned.

Gillian took Grace’s hand as they walked barefoot on the beach. Gillian laughed.
“What’s so funny? Grace said.
“Nothing.” Gillian smiled and looked at Grace.
“Come on something has you’re giggle box turned on.” Grace said.
“This is kinda cliche don’t you think.” Gillian said.
“Yeah I guess it kinda is.” Grace laughed.
“I like it though.” Gillian kissed Grace on the cheek.
“Good.” Grace smiled and kissed Gillian’s hand.
“What do you say we go get dinner?” Grace said.
“Okay where are we going?” Gillian asked.
“How about right here?” Grace pointed to a blanket and picnic basket siting on the other side of a large piece of drift wood.
“Well aren’t you just a romantic.” Gillian walked around the driftwood.
“I thought you’d like it.” Grace knelt on the blanket next to the basket.
“I do.” Gillian sat next Grace.
“I have to admit I cheated a little I asked Skylar what you liked to eat.” Grace opened the basket.
“And what did she say?” Gillian leaned back on her elbows.
“Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches.” Grace said. Gillian kind of smiled. “You were right when you said she knows you better than anyone else. I hope on day you’ll say that about me.”
“Did you make me a PB&J sandwich?” Gillian asked smiling.
“I did.” Grace handed her a plate with a sandwich on it. Gillian took half the sandwich and took a bite. Grace sat the plate down and took the other half.
“Skylar saw me at worst. I hope you never have to see me like that.” Gillian said.
“It wouldn’t matter to me if I saw you even lower than you were before.” Grace sat her half of the sandwich down. Gillian looked like she was about to cry.
“How can you know that, we just met?” Gillian looked down.
“I know but I have never felt this way about anyone before, and besides I have a secret weapon when things get tough.” Grace smiled.
“You can’t be running to Skylar every time we disagree or have a disagreement. It’s not fair.” Gillian said.
“Life’s not fair, but I promise I won’t do that.” Grace said.
“I believe you.” Gillian took a bite of her sandwich and smiled. “What else did Skylar say?”
“Not much, just that your favorite color changes depending on what mood your in which can change in a split second, you believe in family, country, and friends in that order. You like going out and partying but you’d much rather be curled up on the couch with someone you love. You aren’t afraid of much except snakes.” Grace said.
“Okay I get it” Gillian laughed. “She gave you the lowdown on me.”
“Yeah sorta.” Grace smiled.
“What else do you have in that basket?” Gillian asked.
“Just one other thing.” Grace reached in and pulled out at a small box. “I saw this in a store downtown and I knew you’d like it.”
Gillian took the box from her and opened it.
