A Life I Never Meant Chapter Twenty Eight.

I’m sitting in the back seat of Kit’s car as we make our way to The Planet for Shane’s wake. While Kit drives I think about how Bette must be feeling. Making her speech seems to have drained her of all her last remaining vestiges of energy. Kit and I had to help her with walking to the car she was so exhausted.

Right now she is sitting in the passenger seat. I can tell that she is crying quietly even though she’s barely making a sound. Every few seconds Kit looks over at her, but knows that there is nothing that she can say that is going to ease this kind of pain. Bette is literally inconsolable, and the two of us are completely helpless to do anything about it. What would normally feel like a short journey seems like it’s taking an age. All I want to do is to get Bette to the wake so that I can be by her side, hold her and tell her that this doesn’t last forever, because if there is one thing that I know, it’s that eventually you do get to the other side.

Once we get to The Planet I help Bette out of the car. She’s unsteady on her feet but stronger than she was when she left the funeral. She takes hold of my hand and I immediately think back to the last time she held my hand like this. That feels like a lifetime ago. As we walk in I can feel everyone looking at us. I know that it is out of compassion but there is something unnerving about it. I try to hurry Bette towards Kit’s office so that I can build her up to be able to face the next few hours before taking her home.

I get some water from a refrigerator that Kit has in her office and offer it to Bette. She smiles with gratitude even though a blind man could see that her heart is breaking, and that she is running on empty.

“I’m sorry Alice, I know that you must be feeling terrible and yet you seem to spend all of your time looking after me, checking to see if I’m OK.”

“It’s OK. It actually helps to feel that I’m being useful. It keeps my mind off all the other thing that I should be thinking about.”

    1. I think every time there is a B7 T story on fanfic, we readers want to see them ultimatley end up together, I think it is because, IC wont give that to us on the TV screen, I have a feeling your story won’t end with them together, but I am still holding out hope. Whichever way you choose to go, you are a fantastic writer in telling this story Thanks

    2. You know how much I love this story – but this is the second chapter where I don’t know what to say, the last one I didn’t leave a comment as it was really hard to read, notwithstanding, as always, so very well written.

    3. First of all I love your writing! I look forward to your story every post. Since it’s pretty obvious that you are not going to have bette and tina end up together, is there any way when you are done with this story you could write a story where they do end up together? Your an amazing writer and it would be wonderful to read a story where B&T do end up together, since we might not ever get that in the actual show. All that said this is a great story regaurdless of the outcome!

    4. well, sounds like Bette decided to let Tina go and move on…sad, sad, sad…i just want them together…is it too much to ask? don’t answer that

    5. I am so slow. At first I thought that you said this was the last chapter and I was a bit upset that we didn’t get to B&T’s talk, but the way the chapter ended could’ve been a decent ending to the story because It would’ve ended on sort of an up note. But anyway I failed at reading English so I’m looking forward to more even thought it’s kicking my ass.

    6. Are you going to put Bette & Carmen together? And have Tina and Ally ride off happily into the sunset? I’m asking this because Bette’s smile got bigger when Alice said she was coming over tomorrow…..I still don’t know what to say….

    7. I agree with Bette and Tina Forever. Your story is really well written and I want B & T to be reunited but it may not happen. IC doesn’t seem to want to give that to us at this juncture but I am hopeful somewhere down the road she will. Hopefully, I am reading you wrong and you will unite B & T.

    8. God, I wonder why I had the genius idea to read this chapter just before to go to bed… Now I’m feeling such an increasing melancholy everywhere and, well, I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep before a while… However nothing seems to change this good old hope in me : even knowing how naive I certainly am, I’m still crossing fingers, again and again. For Bette and Tina finding a miraculous way to reunite, for this second chance’s concept I so deeply cherrish, for a bit of sunlight in my inward sky… Am I definitly silly ? Do you smile now, facing such unreasonable reader’s reaction – or do you have a kind of sympathetic compassion for that ? — By the way, I’d like to thank Alice here : at least someone express to Tina how inconsiderate she was indeed with Bette, adding her girlfriend’s presence to all the pain my poor vulnerable brunette already has to bear. — Anyway, you’re such a wonderful writer and this beautiful talent of yours fully deserves my reader’s torture ! Believe me, that’s a very sincere compliment. ^_^

    9. another great chapter. please post soon. it feels like the sooner we get to the end, the faster we end our agony. and yet i want to keep reading your writing…. does it even make sense? :p

    10. Great chapter – loved Alice supporting Bette and challenging her too. Even though I want what IC won’t give us the happy reunion of B & T – I really really love how in your version you are letting these women face up to letting go. I think Tina needed to bring her two loves into the same room – even if the timing sucks for Bette in a way. Not until she had them there could she figure out her feelings and even for Bette seeing Tina in a new way with a new person might be the answer to her living in the present and not the past. That’s what I’m getting from you and Iam liking it although it is sad – and sad that another loss had to open them up to the truth. (however you might still through us a curve ball – who knows? only you.) and we all wait upon your every post.

    11. I am so dying here….I think I feel like some of the others. Just always want them together because IC has killed it for us on the show. I will keep coming back to torture myself because I adore your writing

    12. Are you ready? I have a lot of words to say. First of all, thank you so much for writing this story, and I enjoy your writing. I can feel the characters’ breathing and their vivid image from you gifted writing. But, I agree strtgil1 said: “we reader want to see them ultimatley end up together.” TiBette Forever could be one dream that TiBette fans won’t get from IC and TV. I love them so I read fan fictions to get comforts and pretend everything is still going well. Another reason I can’t stop reading this story is there are no bad guys or bad personality in this story. In season 3, they give Tina a complete different character from S1 & 2, and made most fans hate Tina. (I know you haven’t watch season 3 yet, don’t wanna spoil too much) In your story, everyone could be comfused, lost and regreted, but they are trying to do the right things. In the end, You are amazing, no matter how many people already say it, I have to say it again. If you have a little bit time in your hand, please keep writing. :) And I ran out of my tissues in this chapter.

    13. You are complete, just you all aloneWe do not belong togetherYou are complete, just you all aloneI am unfinished, I am diminishedWith or without youWe do not belong togetherAnd we should have belonged togetherWhat made it all right togetherIs what made it all wrong …We have to move on…Settle for the glow, time for letting goNow the moment’s goneTime for moving onMove on, move on….

    14. Oh shit you are soo bad the is painful to read for us Tibette fans it really is crushing my heart. wonderfully written hope & pray for the final chapter Bette & Tina, Bette & Tina

    15. I have to be honest I am slightly mystified. Look at the central theme of this story, look at all the circumstances; Dana’s dead, Tina left LA for New York and has not been back for five years, Bette never got closure and has lost so much, Shane got in an accident and died, Tina has found love again after mourning the loss of her relationship with Bette for so long and Alice is dealing with so much pain. Yet in the midst of all of this and maybe because of all of these factors things seem to have come together. I just dont know how or when or why. Was it the memory of Dana, Shane’s death or some other factor that has lead all these women (individuals) to this place of letting go and moving on. I don’t know if this was your intention but I love that in the midst of all this uncanny sadness you have managed to write a strange fruit that is oddly sweet. I loved it, and you have clearly gotten better as a writer by tackling this theme. I just need to know. If your were to talk about this story before a group of people what would you say is the most pivotal message? Is it that life in unexpected and we should live it to the fullest on not hold on to the pain or is it something that I have not yet grasped?

    16. strange thing…i like everyone in your story except Tina…i just don’t get it or her or whatever…i really like Alice in your story and I hope Bette moves on, and meets the love of her life and Alice too, lol, I’m a Tibetter….so don’t know about that???

    17. Hiya C-Gal, Great to see Tina’s point of view as Bette and Ally spoke for the first time. I do get the feeling that Tina will leave with Ally and perhaps Alice and Bette will revisit their relationship given their shared loss. This can bring people together in a time of despair and grief. However, in my heart of hearts, Bette and Tina belong together so I am ever hopeful. Wonderful and unique writing. Can’t wait to see where this drama leads. Thank you so much, Your Loyal Fan.

    18. I’ve been reading and wanting to leave a comment, but all the other commentators expressed my feelings so much better than myself. So, finally, I wanted to express my Thank you with my own words. First off, your grammar, punctuation and dialogue is just wonderful and helps move the story smoothly. I believe the characters in your story as they are real to the characters introduced in Season 1 and 2; and maybe not that far off for Tina in Season 3. I did not find it strange the Tina loves Ally because Ally was willing to “wait” and “wants” her. She would have gone back to Bette if Bette called to say “come back, I want you”, or in your words “you didn’t have to say anything”. And she was inconsiderate in asking Ally to be there for her. And Ally was not a nice person to have gone; if she was indeed a nice person, she would have known how hard it would have been for Bette to have to deal with Shane’s Death and Tina’s new girlfriend. So, in this case, with the selfish Tina and not so nice Ally; maybe they belong together. And Alice moves back to LA and she and Bette meet the loves of their life and Tina can be on the outside looking in. And yes, I’m a big time TiBetter. Don’t let the last sentence of my comment confuse you, I love your story. Thank you for your time and sharing your story. Aloha!

    19. I had to go back to work so didn’t complete my comment/opinion so for what it’s worth…in your story: maybe Ally and Bette are suited because they seem loving, patient and long suffering with Tina in this story ; I say this because if Shane hadn’t passed on would Tina have ever spoken to Bette? you know done the closure thing which she still hasn’t done so if she’s so over Bette why hasn’t she done it? or is she still keeping her options open? and would she have ever kinda made her mind up that she picks Ally? And if I was either Ally or Bette I would give Tina the “Big Miss” or “Heave Ho”. I mean what self-respecting womyn would allow herself to be strung along like this? Also I think Bette learnt a long time ago that she couldn’t control everything/everyone… so again I hope Ally chooses Bette and Bette chooses Ally…or they choose someone else cause they both sound like really nice people…
