A Life I Never Meant Chapter Thirty Two

I’m at the airport waiting for Tina and Ally to check in. I’ve only come with them to the airport because all through breakfast I couldn’t get them apart. I have failed miserably in trying to talk to one them without the other being around. Even now they’re looking at each other, grinning like they don’t have a care in the world, and I don’t think that they have let go of each other’s hands all morning, except when absolutely necessary.

It really is good to see them both this happy. Tina spoke a little at breakfast about her talk with Bette and how much she regretted that they hadn’t done it sooner. I thought that maybe this was the right time, that they wouldn’t have been ready for it sooner. Ally didn’t venture an opinion on the timing, she’s just glad that it’s happened.

I see them walking back towards me, close together, whispering words to each other, then laughing softly. I never thought that I would see Tina this much in love again, but it seems like all the shackles have been cut off and she’s ready to give of herself again.

“Hey Al.” Tina smiles as they both approach me.

“Are you ever going to let go of each other today?” I ask, with mock exasperation.

“We’re trying not to, but I kind of get the feeling that you’re trying to get Tina on her own. Would I be right?” probes Ally.

“You see right through me.” I admit.

“OK, because it’s you Alice, I’ll let you have her for a few minutes. I’ll get us some coffee.” offers Ally.

“Thanks, but don’t hurry back. Tina and I have things to discuss.”

“Whatever you say.” shouts Ally, over her shoulder like nothing is going to change that good mood of hers.

Tina and I walk over to an table and sit down beside it. Tina’s eyes follow Ally as she walks over to get the coffee. She lets out a contented sigh and then looks at me looking at her.

    “Sorry.”

“Don’t apologise Tina. I’ve waited a long time to see you like this, but I have to say that I always thought it would be Bette that would put that look back on your face.”

    1. Citygirl…thank you for contributing to fan fiction. You are a very talented writer, even though you crushed the hearts of us Tibetters…we can’t take away the fact that your writing skills are awesome. It’s gonna be awhile before I can shake this ending out of my head, but that’s the chance you take when you log on.

    2. I was supposed to cry over that? From the vibe I kept getting throughout the day I thought Bette had killed herself or something. No, that’s not meant to be an idea for an epilogue.

    3. OK, Jobadge, you work that creative expression! We know that you can. (And we know you can spell.) As YOU, citygirl have done very well in this story. You gave us an unique plot (I still can’t believe Shane’s dead), and some lovely insight into the maturation of the human psyche. Great read. Come back soon.

    4. Thanks God, it’s the final chapter. Thank you so much, CG, it’s a great story with talented writing and awesome storyline, only the ending… kinda of hurting my heart. But, I understand why you wrote the ending, yes I do. “Slow fade of love” is beautiful and sadly. I really have a good time reading this story… can’t wait to read the next one.

    5. Although the story didn’t exactly go the way I had hoped, it was certainly very well written. Thank you for sharing it with us… OK JB your turn -SOON please!

    6. Although it was a story well written and well told – I am glad it has ended. Reading it has periodically wrecked me emotionally, but I think that is because I have had to deal with 2 deaths in my own in the last few weeks. You have the ability to convey so much emotion through your words and, because of what I was going through, I could understand every nuance in what you were writing. Please start a new tale soon. Consider me a devoted fan because I’ll soak up every word.

    7. Since I am a serious TiBette(r), I was not pleased with the ending. However, you told a wonderful mature story and told it your way. You showed us that we don’t always get what we want or what we think we should have. Life is that way, oh so not perfect and we don’t always get to have that love in our life as we want. It was brilliantly written. Thank you.

    8. Funniest thing: when I read the first chapter, I thought to myself, “oh, this can’t be good (for Tibette fans)”. But even thinking that, how can anyone refuse reading your writing? You say you won’t be writing in a while, and yet I hold out hope you will. Thanks for sharing this story.

    9. I loved your writing and this story but it was one of the hardest I’ve ever read because you describe grief so incredibly well. 5 years seems way to long to have held on but I’m glad it ends with them knowing that moving on is as important as loving well. Thanks for sharing your gifts with us.

    10. So, that’s the end, it really is ??? No sequel ? No second chance, no hope for hope, nothing else but the apology of letting down something unique for something safe ? I know I said that I’d respect your choice whatever would happen at the end. I said it, I thought it, sincerely. But now, I cannot anymore and I’m sorry for this unability to accept this end… To think I suffered so much, chapter after chapter, desperately trying to imagine which final twist would happen, desperately hoping, still hoping, and for what now ? *** You know, today something acuretely hard happened in my life, something I had to fight a lot and for so long to achieve – following a very painful process in the pursuit of an emotional balance I so need to get again. That’s why the Hope concept is so essential for me, at a so deeply personal level. And now here, reading the last part of this too moving story, I’m feeling lost… Why Bette had to be the only one without any real hope at the end, as if she still had to pay for this old mistake of hers ? Why Tina had to feel so happy having definitly broke the heart and hope of the one she said she loved so much with this only secure and a bit coward choice ? No, I cannot accept it right now, betraying my own usual total respect for authors’ choices – and believe me, I’m feeling bad and hurt to react this way tonight… However, as I often expressed to you, you truly have a gift and your writing is excellent. I just wonder why it seemed so essential for you to give us such a cruel final meaning, such a pitiless morality, such a negation of the concept of second chance… If I could find courage enough to ask you that in a PM, I’d be really curious to know your reasons and the meaning you so doggedly wanted to share with your faithful readers, knowing how the very much part of us will be poor heartbroken and crying-rivers things… Yes, I’d like very much to know more about your hidden objective beginning this particularly bitter and sad story. Anyway, even if it’s hard to say it to you right now, I thank you for all the talent you never stopped to show here – even if the reading pleasure had to always be so overpriced… If you wanted to initiate the club of hurted and full-of-sorrow TiBetters with this to-never-be-read-again-for-our-own-safe story, well, you totally succeed and I’d present you the FF Merciless Award. Please, try to let me know few answers to my questions with a PM of your own, because I’m always feeling so timid to do them myself… well, it would be at least a tiny comfort for one of your most broken reader ! Good bye, cruel talented author…

    11. Damn this is fucking amazing and so sad. Can’t beleive everythings go like this, so emotional and hurt alot and at the end is still not happy and cry all the way. Thanks for sharing this story with us and hope you will have a new one for us soon, thanks!

    12. Lamentamini..I should have saved it for this evening. Even though I still can’t have a drink and read it. Citygirl…you broke my heart but it was a very well written story.

    13. FUCK! I can spell and I need to say it again, only louder and with more spirit… FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK. Citygirl, do you think now would be the time to tell them about our deal?

    14. you know what sucks? that tina is the only one happy and it’s with someone else who is just so not bette, she’s nice and good and boring…tina just went for the safety…i don’t doubt she thinks she’s in love but it sucks…i kept coming because i still had that little ounce of hope that mitacles exist…and now it’s dead…and i can spell too: FUCK!!!!! So what’s the deal? you made a deal that you would write heartbreaking story, lead us all to think that maybe, just maybe B&T will get back together, that Tibetters will stick to the end because we adore this couple and then leave with our hearts borken? Well, you WON…..i’d better go read something happy before i put gun to my head

    15. Citygirl, i cant say ‘thank you’ for this story because i dont like the ending. but i applaud you for sticking to your resolve to write this story the way you want it to, despite the cries from Tibetters. i can imagine it must be hard to read some of our comments. just wanna tel you i appreciate your hard work. read from you soon :)

    16. Beautifully written, but oh so sad! You’ve had me shedding a few tears along the way and there’s still a lump in my throat thinking that Bette is left without her Tina. I hope you’ll come back with another story and maybe one where both Bette and Alice find love again – they both so richly deserve it. Thank you. (PS. Hope you’ll be in London in November?)

    17. I am not a woman of many words. Absolutely wonderful writing! I felt every emotion possible in this story. I literally laughed a few times, cried a few times, and even…understood a few times. Your writing is incredible.

    18. Loved the story and the writing :) It was very sad but it was good to read. Man Carmen saying goodbye to Shane was more heartbreaking than when Tina said goodbye to Bette. Too bad Shane had to die in your story..she always will be my favourite ;)

    19. WHAAAAAH, WHAAAAAAAAAAH :( I’m dying & crying inside at this end. You’ve taken us all on a slow & tortured burn Citigirl *sniff*. I hope you’ll bring us another story that helps pacify our broken hearts. Thank you!

    20. HEy C-gal, That was the perfect ending to a funny and touching tale. I would have like to see Bette and Tina back together but appreciate that Tina now had Ally. Time changes each one of us so something you need to make a change for the better by leaving the past behind you. I can’t wait to see what story you develop next. Just don’t make it too long. Your Loyal Fan.

    21. am sorry i read the first page and this is the first story of the mornin i was reading and i cudnt …..Maybe tonight witha bombay gin and tonic :( this story has been amazing…sumhow tina and bette movin on jus duzn click with me

    22. Thank you for sharing your story. I love Alice and the last line “It’s the slow fade of love.” That is the saddest thing in the world when love fades. Thank you. And enjoy your trip to America.

    23. Ugh, such a sad ending! :( Well, i knew it was coming, but still … Thanks for this great story City, even if it wasn’t a happy ending for B&T, it was your awesome writing that kept us with this story till the end! :) Hope you would continue with writing fanfic coz you have a great way with words!

    24. The story ended how it was supposed to with Tina going back with Ally, good riddance! I have to say Cg, that although your writing is wonderful having created a great story I did not really like Bette’s characterization. But I can apreciate and understand another perspective. It truly was indeed “A life I never meant” for all characters involved. I just finished reading the deal between you and Jobadge, and although very talented and great at creating ranges of emotions(that may me like Tina) I don’t know how it would make me want a Tibette reunion. Nevertheless I will read it. And I am looking forward to your chapter for Jo’s story. Thanks for sharing your story and talent.

    25. Excellent fic CG. This is the your story, and you told it your way. I’ve enjoyed it very much. Your writing is absolutely excellent. B&T finally had their talk, and resolved some of thier issues. I’m glad Ally got her girl!! She’s been so sweet, and although a lot were wishing for a B&T reunion, i think Ally was the overall best pick! Thanks CG!
