A Life I Never Meant – An Alternate Chapter 32
Tina parked the rental car outside the house she had shared with Bette, the home they shared for all of those years and the home she couldn’t step into only a few days before.
She sat… just looking, seeing a lone solitary light inside, her heart was pounding harder than she had ever known, she opened the car door and slowly walked up the steps, her hand gently knocking at the door.
Her mouth became dry as no answer came, she turned to see Bette’s car parked in the driveway, instinctively knowing where she would be, she slowly made her way around to the back of the house, her eyes adjusting to the fading evening light, as she turned the corner she stopped… and watched…
Bette lay back with the wine glass in her hand, resting it on her stomach as she gazed at the waking stars in the sky, she absentmindedly wiped at the slow tears journeying over her cheeks, but she saw the faint smile cross her lips, she looked at peace.
Tina slowly stepped forward, her chest rising and falling with the intensity she felt in her chest at what she was about to do.
Bette turned, her instinct informing her that she wasn’t alone; she sat up as she saw Tina slowly walking toward her, their eyes silently met.
A moment of panic struck Bette as Tina’s eyes welled, her concern for the woman she loved immediately kicking in, “are you okay…? Has something happened…? Did you miss your flight…? What’s going on… what’s happened T?”
Tina smiled at the barrage of typical questions of concern from Bette, she merely shook her head in reply as she now stood directly in front of her, she brought her hand to Bette’s cheek, gently stroking the softness of her skin, her quiet words loud enough for only Bette to hear.
“I’ve come home…”
Bette stood, with her lips suddenly parted, no sounds coming forth as the words sank in.
“Uh… what about Ally?” Bette whispered, the words catching in her throat.
“Can we talk about that tomorrow?”
Bette merely nodded, her mind suddenly full of… words, questions, emotions, nothingness… her ears had just heard the very thing she had waited five years to hear, her heart was pounding, her mouth became dry.
“Bette…” Tina whispered.
Bette swallowed the lump in her throat, trying to make sounds come her silent mouth, “… yeah?”
“Make me yours again…”
Bette’s nervousness set in, her panic at what she had just heard Tina say, she closed her eyes and dropped her head, “T… um… I haven’t… done this… since you… left…”
Tina brought her finger to Bette’s chin, lifting it, allowing their eyes to meet, “You haven’t slept with anyone in 5 years?”
Bette shook her head, she’d never been able to bring herself to, if she couldn’t have the one who held her heart, she didn’t want anyone, and that was they way it had been, any release that her body had needed she had done alone, alone and with the thoughts of her one and only.
“Then I think it’s about time that changed…”
Bette swallowed the lump in her throat, the way in which Tina looked at her, she knew that Tina would be the one who was laying down the possessional boundaries – she would be making Bette hers again.
Tina stood and held her hand out to Bette, with their fingers entwined, Tina silently lead the way, the path she had walked 5 years ago, the path that seemed like only yesterday, she turned looking into Bette’s questioning eyes as they neared the bedroom.
Her quiet words calming the thundering in Bette’s chest, “For keeps Bette, first last and forever…”
The bedroom door quietly closed behind them, allowing the meeting of two lost souls…, found once again, as the newest star in the sky sparkled overhead.
The "other" End.

Thank you Jobadge and Citygirl. I don’t know what to say… I feel love again.
CityGirl thank you for this generous action. To let another author rewrite the ending of your amazingly well written story is beyond my ability to express. JoBadge was the perfect selection. This ending has soothed my broken TiBette heart. Jo, you did an outstanding job both in honoring the original story and by writing an alternative with sensitivity, care, and believability. I can tell that you crafted this ending with great diligence. Brava to the both of you.
Citygirl, you wrote an awesome story but one that broke our Tibetters hearts. Thankyou for handing the baton to a writer who could mend those hearts & still make the ending fit. Jo, from a fellow Brit who rarely breaks cover – you rock!
This is awsome and thanks Citygirl and Jobadge for make this is more wonderul for us and see the love we all hope to see for. Thanks!!!!!!!!!
Amazing – you are two very talented women and thanks for sharing your gifts.
This story has haunted me…thank you.
This was so beautiful. Thank you I hope you give us another story soon.
jeez u got my eyes kinda watery
That was amazing thanks city for letting Jo give us this xxxxxx
Jo this was amazing and totally believable. CityGirl’s story was brilliant and broke my heart too. But Iam glad you guys agreed on this; even till the very end of CG’s story i was hoping Ally would leave Tina. Thanks for making it happen!
Amazing, Beautiful, and Lovely written. I always love a reunited B&T.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart! City Girl’s story was beautiful and so well written, but it left me feeling so bad. This has fixed everything up. Thanks again.
Thank you Jobadge for “making it all better.” I am a Tibette fan and your ending made me cry happy tears. Citygirl’s story is much more realistic and probably how it would end up in everyday life. I am, however, a sucker for a “happily ever after” ending. Thank you both for your beautiful writing skills. It has been a joy to read both stories.
whew! I’m a romantic softy, and while by the end of citygirls story, I had come to terms with the love between Ally and Tina…I have to be honest and say that I like this one, too. Thanks for writing this ending – really nice :)
Thanks to Citygirl for a most wonderful and beautiful story Most of all thanking her for you part in healing our broken hearts. You two have put a lot of sweat time enery and love into this and it tune out so beautiful to both of you with tears I say Thanks to both, I could feel Shane smiling and saying that’s so fucking cute thanks
I thought about this all day had to read again and think that I would like a follow up, of the reconnecting in the bedroon and also the talk Please please please please please please
what can i say-no other love-b&t
Have to say, this ending was much more to my liking. In the same breath, I wanted to also say that it wouldn’t have been half as healing without CG’s incredibly painful, heartwrenching and wonderful story. Good job, you two!

This was really beautiful. I loved Citygirl’s story, but I am a romantic at heart and a sucker for happy B&T endings. This warmed my bruised and battered TiBette heart. Thanks CG and Jobage.
Just catching up with both Citygirl’s story, and your alternate ending. You two put a lot of thought and heart into your writing – thanks to you both for all your hard work.
This ending makes me feel much better about Citygirl’s story. Thank you both for writing them. =)
that is a very sad love story with a very beautiful ending you should write a book girl
Citygirl’s story was amazing. Her writing is beautiful but her ending broke my TiBette heart. You just made it all better…thanks Jo.
Wow…I am so glad Citygirl gave her blessing on this…I loved it. “Bette…make me yours again” I thought I was gonna die. Thank you for healing our broken hearts.
PS…Thanks to Citygirl for letting Jo do this ending
A tearful thankyou! – to both you and Citygirl.
Jobadge, we love you and this ending makes our TiBette hearts feel so much happiness. This is the ending we wanted to see. Thanks Citygirl for letting Jo write this alternate ending. This is as it should be. “Our girls” together. This one made me cry real tears. So emotional.
I agree with Bailey! loved the story but with jo’s ending! It pains me to live in a fanfic universe where b/t end up apart from each other! Citygirl–very emotional story and very well done! Thank you for letting Jo write an alternative ending I think makes your story stronger (but only because I like the outcome better!!!)Jo–great alternative ending! you know how to make the B/T heart sing! always grateful for the b/t loving!
Awww that was beautiful! Thank you for giving us another happy ending.
Wow, what an amazing journey that we have experienced…I can’t lie and say that I don’t like this ending better, but my crazy tibette heart needs this ending, but it will be forever mixed with the original. Thinking about how stories like this are in fact real life for some….Love, it’s an amazing emotion….I LOVE this, Thankyou to you both.
thanks to both Citygirl and Jobadge for putting in all the hard work and heart to bring these lovely stories to us. many thanks.
CityGirl & Jobadge: you really poured yourselves into this story. I’m a TiBetter at heart so this alternate ending made me feel much better. Will we see a sequel?
Loved it! We absolutely need a sequel!
you know this chapter was in a way heartbreaking too but i’m glad you were able to make all tibetters happy…i do read B&T stories where they don’t end up together and they make me profoundly upset because this couple began to mean so much to me since the first time i saw them together in s1…thank you both for this story…and of course i would be lying that i didn’t prefer this ending…it was different and it was happy for tibetters..but then again, it was probably sad for carmen fans and for Tinally fans…can’t please them all…so i’m happy that you chose to please tibetters and mend our broken hearts :)
This is absolutely the best ending and so much more likely, I just could not get with Tina and Ally. Thank you for making my day.
Wow! I mean WOW! Just awesome Jo. Thanks! Even though i loved citygirl’s story, needless to say that ending broke my heart. So thank you citygirl for letting Jo write this! :)
Thanks to citygirl for allowing Jo to give us a different spin on the ending. Jo, you actually had me going a few times. I kept thinking, “WTF they’re still not gonna end up together?!” If this was meant to be more than just 1 chapter, I’m sure Alice’s POV would be written, and I’m sure she’d shit herself over B&T getting back together. lol Excellent job, citygirl and Jo, for this story.
Citygirl, you’re nearly as selfless as Ally in letting your baby go to be in someone else’s hands. That was the sweeter ending Jo, but I can’t help but observe that it was only through Ally’s action that B&T got back together. Good luck to B&T and all the TiBetters out there.
This was written beautifully, Citygirl story I loved, and I love how you gave us an alternative ending for all us Tibetters..Jobadge, blown away by this chapter. Thank you.
Why should I keep watching L Word? Here we have better stories, with drama, for sure, but also, with real people. They talk, cry, get laid, discuss, fight, but they are also happy. Things that can´t mix (according to the LW writers) in real world. They are wrong! I love the way you write…Thanks!
Thank you so much for writing this “other end”……..I loved that Tina and Bette got back together…….Just great.
So beautiful, I’m a sucker for happy endings, so this is great. I just hoped that is was Tina who took the decision and not Ally.
i have to say that was a much better ending than the original, i actually had stomach pains after the first one, and a warm happy feeling with this ending, thanks for the re-write!!!!!!!!!
You are the first last and forever guardian angel of B&T’s love…
This is wayyyy better, thank you. My Tibette heart is healed! =)) Thanks to both you and citygirl =))
