“Why haven’t you come to visit?”

“I’ve been busy.”

“Okay, why did you move so sudden? Also, why did you move without a good-bye?”

“Because good-byes are so hard. I can’t say good-bye to anyone, it’s heart breaking. Now I have a question for you.”

“What?”

“HowWhat are you doing here?”

Shane was shocked by the question. She expected Alice to be happy to see her. “Because, we all miss you. And I thought you needed to see a friendly face. I know most people in this city are jerks.”

“How did you know where I lived?”

“I got your address from your office.”

“So much for secret filing.”

There was silence, and Shane just stared at Alice. “Come back to L.A., please.”

“Shane I wish I could, but I can’t.”

Shane thought whether she should say it or not. “Dana misses you. She wants to know how you’re doing.”

Alice lowered her head. “I’ve moved on,” she lied.

Shane jumped up and started talking to Alice in a voice of anger. “Bull shit! You haven’t moved on, you know how I know? Cause you haven’t come back. You truly moved on, you would’ve come back by now. Alice, you’re so fucking stubborn. I know you miss Dana, so don’t give me this shit that you don’t and you’ve moved on. You know what Dana’s been doing since you’ve been gone? She’s been talking about you so much, that I felt like shooting myself if I heard your name. She goes out to clubs and drowns herself in beer and sluts. Alice, please go back to her.”

Alice just sat there, head low. “Shane, I don’t know what to do anymore.”

Shane kneeled next to her. “Go back. You know you want to.”

“I want to, but I don’t think I can.”

Shane sighed and stood up. She walked towards the door and said, “Alice, I don’t know what to tell you. You’re still my best friend no matter what you choose to do.” Shane opened the door and walked out. She closed the door and Alice started crying. What was she going to do?
