Bette knocked on Tina’s front door, and heard the invitation to enter from inside. She pushed the door open and saw Tina already sitting in the rocker with Angelica drifting in and out of sleep on her lap.
“She was still keeping the babysitter busy when I got here,” Tina said quietly. “And she was clearly overtired.”
The affection Bette had for them threatened to overwhelm her again.
“I love seeing you two together like this,” she managed to say, having composed herself to speak without betraying the underlying emotion inherent in her words.
“Help yourself to something to drink,” Tina said. “I’m going to sit with her and let her fall completely asleep before I put her to bed.”
“Can I get you something?” Bette asked.
“A glass of whatever you’re having is fine.”
The statement was another sign of the simple similarities that had always drawn them together.
Bette soon returned with two tall glasses of Pellegrino, each garnished with a twist of lime. She set one on the end table beside Tina and took a seat on the couch across from her.
Tina plucked the lime from the lip of the glass and squeezed it into the bubbly liquid.
“Nice touch,” she offered with a smile before sucking the flesh of the lime into her mouth and discarding the peel onto a spare coaster.
“I never understood how you could stand that taste,” Bette commented, shaking her head.
“I’ve always liked sour over sweet,” Tina smirked.
Bette was unsure how she should respond to what was obviously intended as something of a character evaluation.
“It’s not often you’re left speechless,” Tina observed. “Glad to see I can still do that to you sometimes.”
She rose from the chair slowly with the intention of taking Angelica to bed. No easy task with a toddler of her size.
“Can I help?” Bette stood as well.
“It’s fine, just relax,” Tina replied. “I’ll be right back.”
Tina was true to her word. She returned in a few minutes, having changed from the dress she had on for the evening out. Now a pair of faded jeans and a tank top left precious little to the imagination.
“How do you do that?” Bette asked.
“Do what?” Tina picked up her glass and sat to face Bette on the couch.

Bette has a lot more self control than I would under similar situations. (Then again, I suppose she’s planning for the long term, whereas I’d figure I’d be lotto-winner lucky to get one shot.) Thanks, swimmie. Uh, where’s the rest?

I love that Bette is maintaining some self control and ending things (she is ending things right???) with Jodie before starting fresh with Tina.
Fuck, yo. I’m in love with this.. the affection that Bette had for watching Tina with Angelica. Laying her cards out on the table. The fact she only wanted to be faithful to prove herself to Tina. All of it.
Didn’t think that scene could get any better, but you’ve done just that. So perfect, swimmie. Sorry for not commenting, but absolutely loved your last story, too!

But where is Tina’s need to prove SHE will be faithful to Bette, and not just leave her again on a whim? Everything was not just Bette’s fault.

Oh how I wish it would have happened this way JKS! Unfortunately I.C. likes her drama and loves a distraught Bette always fighting with her internal emotions. JB has cultivated that because she’s so good with her facial expressions, you can always tell what she’s feeling. Anyway, I love your version and can’t wait for your next post.
Thanks for having Bette and Tina step back and wait untill they are free. I have a feeling that will not happen on the show, but I would want to see Bette and Tina all the way back without the feelings of cheating on someone.
If only you wrote for IC so that we could “see” these characters mature -thank you for giving us that storyline. Very very sweet.
Loving this…you’ve done a brilliant job with the transition from scenes of 504. I like that Bette is willing to face the difficult conversation with Jodi…this is the alpha Bette we all got to know and like. The current L-word tv version of Bette seems somewhat fearful of Jodi and tend to avoid confrontational issues. Looking forward to your update. Thanks.

Bette is no cheater, she seeks a long term relationship and happiness, a family, a stability … These are the things Jodi can’t give her cause Jodi still has to grow up, we saw that well enough in episode 503. Hello jks, well that was indeed the best B-Day gift I could ever receive thank you. You are completely brilliant my friend… the way you paint Bette and Tina with intense emotional strokes is just amazing… I love the emotional undertones that exist between these two… this is not about comfort it is about home… it is about family… it is about “Love” and that is the most important thing that these two will ever have. I absolutely love how Bette insures Tina that once and for all this is finally about them as an “our” as opposed to them as an “I and you” because this might not seem like much but this one little exchange just goes to show that she sees Tina as her, first, last and forever. I cannot wait for the next part and well the part after that, because we need to see them bring Angelica home… together :P… Sincerely, JC (PS – did I tell you that you are absolutely brilliant)

Wow, what a great transition. I am glad that Bette is not cheating on Tina, and I feel bad for Bette because she is going to have a tough day ahead of her…seems to me, you might need a couple more chapters to finish this story…thanks, as always, for yout time and dedication to this story.
