    A Failure to Communicate, 9

Tina was getting Angelica out of her car seat as Bette pulled in behind them. She slowly walked over and making faces at Angelica, took her from Tina’s arms. “Hey, how are you today,” Tina asked, leaning in and giving Bette a quick kiss hello. “The samehi baby, did you have a nice drive?” Tina’s heart melted as she watched Bette flirt with Angelica. “Alice stopped by today. She was looking for you, well, she wanted to talk to the both of us, together.”

“Does she know? Did you tell her?” Bette quickly asked, following Tina toward the front door. “No, I didn’t, she doesn’t know anything. In fact, Dana barely came up.”

Bette: “Are you kidding me? She’s been “non-stop Dana” for the past 3 months. I can’t even get her to talk about”

As Tina reached for her keys, she said, “What?”

Bette returned her attention back to Angelica. “It’s nothing, it’s just, I saw her with Helena Peabody yesterday, so….”

Tina walked into the house and waited for Bette to enter so she could shut the door behind them. “Well, apparentlythat’s what she came here to talk us about.”

As they entered the kitchen, Bette reached for the highchair, pulling it toward the table. She gently placed Angelica into the seat, and said, “Why would she come here to tell us that?”

“Well, she actually came here to give me somethingfrom Helena.”

Bette finished buckling Angelica in and standing up straight, placed her hands on her hips. “I see. And what did Helena have to give to you?”

    Tina: “Her business card.”

    Bette: “Her business card?”

    Tina: “Yes, her business cardsee?”

Tina threw the card on to the table and returned to what she was doing. Bette reached down and picking up the card, read aloud. “Helena Peabody, The Peabody Foundation Production?? Oh Tina. What is she going to do, go around buying up anything that remotely interests you? Is she that desperate?”
