You Don't Know Me – (Chapter: Where'd That Come From)

    Chapter 6

“How are things with you and your parents?” I ask glancing away from the road to Michelle, who’s in the passenger seat of my car. I didn’t tell you but I did talk to her about her partying and how it’s getting out of control. She said she knows she just don’t know any other way to get her parents to notice her. It makes me sad and angry that her parents, doesn’t stop to tell her how amazing she is. So I do, I tell her how brilliant, funny, beautiful, kind… and the list goes on. But they all can be used to describe her. She’s my best friend and if know one else tells her all these things, they know about her, at least I would have been one person to voice, what is true. That counts for something, right?

“Their trying, but you know I’m over it. They’ll come around, hopefully soon.” She says I know she didn’t mean it when she says she’s over it but I’m glad, she’s trying to move forward. See the thing about our parents is, they’re always busy, that’s why they send us away to schools like Highland Academy were they enroll us into summer classes. They say it’s to help us in the long run, but really its just so they can push us off onto someone else for a couple of hours. The difference between my parents and hers is. They at least make time to compliment me on my accomplishments. Michelle’s just act like it’s no big deal; I think they would be the same way if she was failing every class. That’s the sad part.

“Yeah… so how was last night? Man I wish I could have been there.” I ask parking in the parking lot of Pop Mills. I would like to say that last week when I left Ashley here, to think about what I said I didn’t come back for at least a couple of days. But then I would be just lying. Crushes are never that easy to get over, especially when you’re not really trying. Ashley’s still being Ashley. She’s back to nodding her head at me when she sees me, then going back to her business like I’m not even there.
