    Who said life was easy?

"I'm Alice. It's nice to meet you. What's your name?" She said.

"Hi….. I'm, uh, Nikki." I said. I was confused. I would have been pissed if I came outside and saw a random person standing in my backyard.

"Hi, Nikki. Would you like to come in and meet the family?" She said as she skipped up to me.

"Um? Okay, I'm sorry. I really don't mean to sound like a bitch, but you don't know me so why are you so excited to see me like we're best friends or something?" I said. I really didn't mean to sound like a bitch, I was just so confused. Why is she so excited?

"Well, we could be. EMMETT! Come out here!" She shouted, still looking at me with this cheesy ass grin. It made me smile actually. She was a good person. Ever since I could remember I could read people. Not their minds or anything, but I can tell what kind of person they are, if they were good, bad, sincere, sneaky. I could also read lies better than a lie detector test.

One day at the station my uncle works at, we had someone strapped onto the lie detector test, and they past it. Every other answer was a lie and I didn't know. When they had me do it I pointed out the lies perfectly. It was unbelievable. My mom thought I was a freak, which is where half the shit came from, but my dad could read people too. So I knew she was real.

    The whole family came outside.

"This is Nikki! Nikki, this is my dad, Carlisle, my mother, Esme, my brother, Emmett, his wife, well, by tomorrow, Rosalie, my love Jasper, and that sour puss back there is my brother, Edward." She pointed at each person. Carlisle and Esme looked way too young to be parents.

"I know what you're thinking, they're too young to be parents. Well, me, Edward, and Emmett are real siblings and-"

    "You're lying." I interrupted her.

    "What?" She asked me, puzzled.

"You're lying. You're not brother and sister." I said calmly. I could tell as soon as she said it. It's weird. I can't tell by heartbeats, or sweat. It's in the person's face. Every time someone lies without thinking about it their face changes and it's easy for me to spot for some reason. Even if they gave me a whole story with a few lies I could tell those few lies.

"How did you know that?" Alice asked. Her and the whole family looked so confused, so I explained to her.

"Well, I can read people. That's why I didn't run when you were excited to see me. I knew you were sincere, and I can tell when people lie. So, when you said that I was able to tell." I thought for sure they were going to run. Most people do, except my brothers and dad. Other than that, the rest of my fam doesn't know because my own mother treated me different. Something was really different about this family though. They might not have been blood but they were a family. That was for sure.

"So, you have special powers so to speak?" Emmett said with a smirk.

"Yeah, hey, listen I'm sorry if I freaked you guys out, I live down the street. The quad trail that leads to your yard here also leads to my backyard, so, hello neighbor." I said with a smile and a wave.

"Nikki, would you like to stay around a little longer?" Esme asked me. "We would ALL love to get to know you better."

"That would be cool." I said. Rosalie came right to my side and locked her arm around mine. It was strange, she really didn't say anything the whole time. Whatevs. I KNEW they all were real, they were different, but so was I.
