White Lightning – (Chapter: Even If I’m Not In Your Life)
“I’m gonna get started on this door,” Kyla muttered. Ashley grunted in response, staring at the security hologram and arming it.
“I’ve been working on this too, just in case of an emergency. The room is going to arm itself. Do you really love that maniacal bastard?” Ashley asked throwing a large piece of aluminum at Kyla who ducked the attack.
“Um…no not really. He’s kind of an ass actually but I couldn’t find anyone else. I’m starting to think Aiden isn’t so bad anymore remind me to talk to him when we get back,” Kyla said staring off into the distance. Ashley patted the seat right next to her and Kyla shut off the torch. She’d melted the doorframe to the actual door, so unless they brought a high powered laser no one was getting through.
“Let me put the finishing touches on this and we can go. I’d kind of hoped that I’d get to use this one day. Remember that old movie you used to watch about the people who died in that underground lab and started eating other people? Well I modeled my security system after that one. Check out the lasers,” Ashley said proudly. Kyla’s eyes grew as wide as craters in the moon as she watched the security simulation on the holo screen.
“Oh snap! Anyone comes in here and they’re gonna die! I love that movie. But can you change the laser color? Green is so ew and pink is so much more eye pleasing,” Kyla said with a sugary sweet smile and a twinkle in her eye.
“Whatever, all I know is that if Rick comes in here… heads are gonna roll.” She smiled but then paused to check if Kyla was okay with the prospect of her man candy being decapitated. Her younger sister flashed her a hearty thumbs up and Ashley was convinced. “The bio sensors on the machine will deactivate the security system when we return. It knows us. And only us.”
The girls put on their belts and stood before the machine. It was frightening the way that it loomed over them, so powerful and cold. Ashley knew that this could be the last time they ever saw their home, and she looked around at the lab. The security holo was up and flashing alerting them that they had two minutes to evacuate the lab. All of their belongings were scattered throughout the room and beside her she heard Kyla let out a shuddering breath.
