Voices Whispering silence – (Chapter: One:White Walls)
Pulling up the drive of Crooked Oaks Hospital I look at the place that I’m being forced to call home. The bricks are a frosty shade of grey and baige. Theres trees lineing the long curving drive way. The trees have no leafs though, There all dead as fall is quickly fading into winter.
As the car comes to a halt my mom turns and looks at me.
“I’m only doing this because I love you Spencer. I want you to be better” A single fake ass tear falls from her eyes as she speaks.
“If you loved me you wouldn’t be forcing me to be here. Theres nothing wrong with me. I’m perfectly fine!” I snapped rolling my eyes and opening the car door.
Mom pops the truck and I pull out my bag of things, that mom and a check list the Doctors gave her, Say is okay for me to have. I look up at mom and Chuck, Her new boyfriend, to see him smiling at me and her crying her fake ass tears again. She didn’t bother to call Clay or Glen and let them know what she was doing or where she was sending me so I don’t get to see them. Of course I haven’t seen clay since he headed off to yale last fall, And I haven’t seen glen since she shipped off to Iraq over the summer.
“Miss Carlin, Welcome!” I see a nurse in all white scrubs heading toward me smiling. “It’s great to have you here at Crooked Oaks. I’m sure you’ll love it here.”
“Whatever.”I rolled my eyes once again.
“Mrs. Carlin, We’ll take good care of her I promise.” The nurse reasurred my mother.
“I love you Spencer remember that. Now give me a hug and kiss before you head inside.” My mother opened her arms waiting for the hug she requested.
“Whatever. Bye mom Thanks for shipping me off. I can really tell you care.” I smarted off to her as I grabbed the handle of my bag. “Oh and chuck…”
“Yes Spencer?” He asked smiling as always.
“Try to drive that peice of shit car of yours off a cliff on your way home.”
“SPENCER!” My mom yelled. “That was uncalled for!”
“I’m sorry Chuck. Why don’t you guy’s drive safely on the way home and once you get there, Go upstairs and in my moms closet is a loaded gun she keeps as protection. Take it from the closet and lay it on the bed, pull your head out of your ass then insert the gun in our mouth, pull the triger and blow your fucking brains out for me!” I smiled and walked toward the large double doors and waited for the nurse to follow me.
Once we got in side and she gave me a quick tour of the place she showed me my room.
“This will be your room.” She said opening the door. “This is your new room mate, Shea.” She said pointing to a girl laying in her bed throwing paper wads at the trash can in the corner. “Shea, This is Spencer. Be nice and help her unpack her things. And you know that you can have paper outside of the Art Room.” She walked over and scooped up the stack of paper laying on Shea’s bed before walking out of the room.
“So your the new girl huh?” She asked eye balling me.
“I guess so…” I said lamely as I begain to unpack my things.
“Well don’t touch my shit and if I have someone in here at night keep your fucking mouth closed about it!” She hissed before exiting the room.
‘Oh great. I have a bitch for a roommate and who know what other crazy mother fuckers I’m stuck up here with’ I thought to myself. I looked around the room noticing the wasn’t a spec of color in here nor was there a spec of color anywhere else in this place. This is gonna suck ass. Thanks mom…..
