To Spashley With Love – (Chapter: Chapter One)
I decided to look up and Ashley was still looking at me. Today I didn’t have a bad hair day. My hair was actually looking somewhat decent. I don’t have anything on my face or on my teeth. I would think Chelsea would tell me if I did, but I did not really know the girl. She couldn’t be possibly be looking at me for simply looking, right? I’m not much to look at. I look at Chelsea’s direction and notice that Ashley’s not paying attention to her at all. My eyes wander around the room to make sure this isn’t her idea of a sick joke. I had a confused look on my face and I pointed to myself. “Me?” I mouthed.
A beautiful smile formed on her lips. “Yeah you,” she mouthed. I found myself returning the smile. I don’t think that King High would be so bad after all.
After school, I was at Glen’s basketball practice in the gymnasium. He was my ride home. Glen was hogging the basketball from another guy who had spiky, brown hair and green eyes. He pushed the boy to the ground. The spiky haired guy got up and went towards Glen. Things were going to take a turn for the worst here. It was the first day and my brother was causing trouble.
“What the hell’s your problem, farm boy!” shouted the teen. “This is my team, not yours.”
“We’ll see about that, Darren,” Glen sneered.
“It’s Derek, you twit,” he snarled.
Ashley walked into the gym and sat next to me. “Do you like basketball or enjoy guys patting each other on the ass?” asked Ashley. I laughed.
“No, that’s my brother,” I answered pointing Glen out. “He’s my ride.”
Ashley looked at Glen for a brief moment and back at me. “Cute,” commented Ashley. So I guess Ashley didn’t like me at all. Ashley must have noticed the disappointed look on my face since she said, “His sister’s way cuter though.” I felt myself blushing again.
Derek looked at the bleachers and noticed Ashley. Glen hit Derek in the face with the basketball and laughed. Derek went to hit Glen when a random teammate intervened.
“Save it for the game!” the guy said lamely. Glen didn’t pay any attention to Derek was and he stared at Ashley intently.
“It looks like you have your own personal fan club,” I joked with a hint of jealousy. Chelsea told me that she liked guys and girls. Ashley would obviously still like her ex-boyfriend and even my brother over me.
“Well, the guy who got hit with the basketball is Derek, my ex-boyfriend/star basketball player,” began Ashley. “The basketball star and the head cheerbitch get together, hook up, call it whatever you want. It’s just how it is. At King High, it is all about being somebody.”
“Who are you then?” I asked with curiosity.
“Well, I haven’t really decided today,” smiled Ashley. “I’m Ashley Davies.” Ashley held out her hand for me to shake.
“Spencer Carlin,” I said. “Nice to meet you.” I shook Ashley’s hand and felt a shock. This is going to turn out to be an interesting year.
After practice, Ashley walked up to Derek. “Hi, Derek,” said Ashley. Derek glared at Ashley.
“What do you want, Ashley?” Derek asked coldly.
“I want us to be okay,” answered Ashley with a sigh.
“We’re never gonna be okay,” Derek snarled. “You’re dead to me.” Derek walked away.
