There's no Sympathy for the Dead
PHONECALL
Bella (POV)
It was heaven lying in the beautiful grassy meadow; watching butterflies chasing each other happily, listening to the birds chirping up in the trees, and feeling the heat of the summers day soak into my skin. It was all amazing, but none of that was why I called it heaven. What made it so special was that my perfect fiancée was lying next to me. Wow! It didn’t seem right using the word fiancée! I still found it hard to believe that someone as amazing as Edward Cullen was engaged to me. Me! Just ordinary, plain, nothing-special, Bella.
Edward lay next to me his skin sparkling in the brilliant sunlight that shone through the gaps in the trees. That was one of the advantages of having a vampire for a boyfriend! It still took my breath away.
My hair rippled in the light breeze and Edward stiffened. Despite what he said, I knew it was hard for him to be close to me and I despised the fact that I was causing him pain. Still, I didn’t have to hurt him much longer. I didn’t have to stay human forever…
“What are you thinking?” his velvet voice interrupted my thoughts.
“I was just thinking how soon it is until our wedding day,” I lied quickly, I knew it made him sad when I talked about him changing me.
“Yes, amazing isn’t it? But you are a terrible liar Bella, what were you really thinking?” Damn. I gave in.
“I was wishing that you would turn me into a vampire soon”
He sighed. “ Bella, I know I agreed, but are you sure you really want this?”
“Yes! For the thousandth time I am sure!”
“I just don’t want you rush into anything you will regret.”
“Why would I regret spending the rest of eternity with you? You know I’m right so you might as well give in.”
He sighed again “You can be so stubborn sometimes!”
“Bite me!”
Suddenly he was on his feet, he let out a menacing snarl and pounced, pinning me to the ground. He chuckled and pulled me upright, but he kept his marble arms tightly around me. He touched his cool lips to mine and sent my heart beat racing.
I felt something vibrate in his pocket, and he pulled out his expensive looking cell phone.
“Hello?…Oh Alice, hi…” He frowned, and looked at me as he spoke, “ Wow, slow down! What’s wrong?….Right, I’ll be there as soon as I can” He hung up.
“What was that about?”
Edward ignored my question and pulled me to my feet. “Come on, we’re leaving,” he said urgently, flinging me over his back. We sped off through the woods, at the speed of light, racing back towards his house.
