The Way I Loved You (Chapter Seventeen)
“Ashley!” Arthur called as I walked into the living room after Spencer. He pulled me into a deep hug before pulling Spencer into hug. “Paula! The girls are here!” He yelled up the stairs. A second later Paula Carlin appeared at the top of the stairs and I shook my head. She looked exactly the same. Her blonde hair was a bit thinner and the lines on her face were a bit more definitive but other than that she still looked like she was around thirty something when she had to be in her fifties. She surprised me by pulling me into a hug.
“Ashley you’re looking great!” She said pleasantly, turning me around to look over me. “I haven’t seen you in years, how’ve you been?” I didn’t quite know how to respond. She was being so nice, I was a bit flabbergasted. Even in our good years she had just been pleasant, she had never gone out of her way to make me feel welcome. Spencer nudged me and I shook my head to clear it.
“I’ve been great, and look who’s talking! You’re still the hot mom!” I joked, making her throw her head back and laugh pleasantly as she led the way into the kitchen. The day went just like that. Paula had apparently grown to love me in the years since I’d last seen her. I didn’t know what to make of it so I played it up and joked around with them as best as I could.
“Look at that, they love you.” Spencer said in mock surprise as we walked into the living room, leaving her parents alone in the kitchen.
“You made me nervous for no reason!” I accused, making her giggle.
“You’re so cute when you’re nervous.” She growled sexily, leaning in to nibble on my earlobe. I groaned and smiled as my hand came to rest on her knee. “I couldn’t help myself.”
“You’re going to get it later.” I said when she buried her head in the crook of my neck, laying kisses on the warm skin there.
“Is that a promise Miss Davies?” This girl was going to be the death of me.
The Carlin house was quiet as I snuck down the stairs and into the kitchen. It was nearly four in the morning and Spencer was leaving for New York in one week. We had been spending every waking moment together but I wasn’t technically supposed to be at her house. They had a strict curfew for my visits, I was to be gone by 11 and if they caught me there then they would move the time up and if we were in Spencer’s room the door was to be left open. Luckily enough I was practically an expert at sneaking in and out of the Carlin’s house. It wasn’t so much that they didn’t like me, I think it was that they wanted to keep some form of innocent thought associated with Spencer. They weren’t stupid; they had to know that we were at it like bunnies every chance we got.
