The Untouchable Element – (Chapter: 1-Soul On Fire)
PREFACE
Chasing the dream to discover something far more significant than the existence of humanity was an impossibility to begin with. It shouldn’t have been thought of as an adventure if I knew the journey would have been excruciatingly painful and nightmarish. Of all the six billion people on Earth, why did it have to be me that this beautiful, foreign thing would be attached to? Her involvement with me was never meant to be destructive, and it wasn’t appropriate according to natural law. Neither of us paid attention to the signals that were laid out blatantly in front of us, however, but we endured a lot of physical and emotional torment together anyway. Obstacles, as she constantly predicted them whenever they were to occur, were going to be a part of our lives if we were to remain a couple and much to my dismay, we had to overcome many despite the consequences that followed. These challenges had nothing to do with just mere homophobia but rather something more dire. She came to me with a hidden agenda, as I later discovered, and I allowed her to control me in the most frightening way because of my ignorance. For that, I paid dearly with my life by quickly transforming into something I couldn’t quite recognize at the time when I was still a stranger to her, but now I know I’ve become the supernatural creature she was born as. I, once a primitive human being, ended up evolving into a product of an experiment gone awry, which was conducted by my own surprised, complex lover. What she was trying to do with that experiment was helping me escape the meaningless life I was living but she unintentionally prolonged my subsistence instead.
I should be dead by now, but unfortunately, I have the means to survive almost anything these days even though I’m supposed to have an expiration date. Well, normal human beings have one, so I have no right placing myself in the same category along with them. Technically, I’m human to a certain extent yet my bloodstream has been infected with a radioactive element that naturally comes from a planet I haven’t even heard of. It all began awhile back, before I became more human than ever before. My life had already taken a turn for the worst when I lost an important part of myself long ago but it somehow went horribly bleak yet again the day I accidentally stumbled into an untouched section of the Cherry Creek Reservoir back in Colorado… If I had known that the events leading up to now were going to take place when I placed a finger in that tainted water, none of this would be happening if I had listened to my instincts. It’s too late for regrets though; misery stalks me as if I were its only company, no matter what I do. Who knew that deep within the lake so many people were familiar with inhabited a portal that linked to both my world and that of my lover’s? That was the reason why she came to me, I had violated the territory that belonged to her people and humans were never supposed to find it out. I must have been extremely naïve when I thought she was only interested in me because she actually found me alluring, and that she does, but now there’s something else that obligates our relationship to stay intact. The future of mankind is at stake because we both produced a forbidden connection that is considered immoral in my world and illegal in hers; Love. Ashley Davies, the alias she preferred, meddled with a human being of the past even though future laws specifically state that you couldn’t interfere with anybody of ancestral roots. It all sounds confusing and pointless now, but this is the story of how I evolved and how I spoiled plans for the current state of humanity. Maybe life on earth won’t cease to exist if I could find a way to prevent extinction but of course I cannot do this single handedly. Ashley and I are in this together, we must prepare ourselves for anything yet what are we arming ourselves with if we know nothing of what is to come? I just cannot tolerate her theory of my world being destroyed while there’s also the possibility of her being executed for breaking the law. I will not lose her, I don’t think I would be in great shape if I were to lose somebody I loved…not again.
