The Three of Us – (Chapter: Chapter 8 The Firm)
Tanya wasn’t there so she sat down and looked around her office for awhile. Tanya Daniels had pictures of two children, a boy around two and a girl around six maybe. They were adorable and they looked happy in the pictures. There were several pictures of two women with the children and some without, they were both attractive women, Jodie wondered which of them was Tanya. The door opened and Jodie stood up and turned around, there was a very friendly voice saying, “Hi sorry I had issues with one of our partners, I am Tanya Daniels and you must be Jodie Adams, please have a seat.” “Yes thank you, I have enjoyed looking at your beautiful family” Jodie said with a smile. Tanya was flattered by the comment Jodie made. She thought, what a beautiful smile, one that captivated her, there was something about Jodie but she was not sure what it was. Tanya wanted to know all about her, and so she put Jodie’s resume and all the references to the side and asked Jodie to tell her about herself.
Jodie was sitting there with a look of despair, she did not care to be the focus of attention she was the person for the background work. So she took a deep breath and as she started to talk her, then her cell phone rang she looked down it was Spencer, Jodie hit the ignore button. She would just have to leave a message and Jodie would call her back later. Jodie got up the nerve and this is what she told Tanya who was settled in her chair looking like a school girl watching a television show.
“I was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1977 to a quiet family out in the country. I graduated from West Fulton High School in 1995, and immediately enrolled in the summer program at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia where I studied all the courses I could from 1995 to 1999. I received my Masters of Business Administration in Accounting. After I completed that I moved to Boston, Massachusetts where I enrolled at Boston University’s Center for Digital Imaging Arts and received a Bachelors of Arts in Audio and Video Production during the years 1999 to 2002, I finished three semesters early because I always stayed on campus and never went home for holidays or the summer break. I met someone in 2000 and we moved in 2002 after I graduated, to Charleston, South Carolina because of her job with a seafood restaurant franchise” Jodie stated with a tear falling down her cheek. Tanya was very touched with Jodie that she asked, “Are you alright Jodie, you have had a busy life so far, please continue if you can”.
“I worked at a firm in Boston as an Administration Assistant but quit when we moved. While in Charleston, I worked for a year and a half at Group Studio as Audio and Video Editor. I had to start working part time in 2003 because my partner was diagnosed with cancer and she died in 2004. I left South Carolina for sunny California and have been here since” with that Jodie sat down and breathed out a sigh of relief.
Tanya had tears in her eyes from the story; Jodie had obviously loved her lady to no end as she herself loved Anna before she left her with two children to rear alone. She wiped her face and stood up and walked in front of Jodie and leaned back on her desk and said, “Well I am very impressed with you Ms. Adams and I would like to offer you the position of being my personal assistant, because you are too qualified for the front office secretary jobs. You should be with me since I am the Vice President of Accounts and I need someone with experience of work and life in general. Now don’t answer now, give it a couple days and I will call you to get your answer” Tanya said with a smile.
Jodie was in a daze thinking of working side by side with Tanya, a beautiful brunette with olive skin and dark brown eyes that made her heart beat a little faster. “Alright you have my cell number and I look forward to hearing from you, thanks for the opportunity of hearing me.” With that Jodie left the building and walked down to the street to catch the bus to go to the studio.
She reached in her pocket and pulled out two cards, she knew one was Shelly’s with her phone number on it. But, the other was Tanya’s with her phone number and a figure of $K a year written on it. She must have slipped it in while Jodie was so engrossed in telling the story of her life. She thought that was a great salary for that job, but she wanted to still go to the studio because something was pulling her in that direction.
