The Princess and The Puppet – (Chapter: The Great Pretender)
CHAPTER TWO
ASHLEY’S POV:
Another day at King High, how exciting. My name is Ashley Davies and I basically own this place along with my friends. Every school has their cliques. We are at the top of the food chain in the popular crowd. You don’t speak to us unless spoken to. We wear only top of the line clothes and never wear the same outfit twice. Okay I know what you are thinking, ‘she’s going to be the bitch of the story’. Just give me a second to explain myself though, besides you should know by now Madison always plays the bitch. Anyway, the truth is I hate being in the popular crowd with these people. Some days I just want to come to school in my sweats and not be gawked at like a grew an extra head.
I only pretend to be one of them, because I care too much about what they would say if I told them to go screw themselves. It’s like I have become dependent on these people. I think its because I am so afraid to let my true self out, whoever that it is. I have spent the better portion of my life pretending to be someone I’m not. I spent so much time pretending I don’t know what’s real and what’s fake.
“Hey Ash, what’s up?” My best friend Madison greets me as I step out of my Porsche and onto the pavement of King High. She comes over to me and gives me a quick hug. Pretty soon Madison’s little minion, Sherry, joins us. We start walking to class and talk about our weekend plans. “So Ash are we going to Grey this weekend?”, Madison asks me while I am getting my books out of my locker. “Uh yeah sure”, I reply. That was our weekend routine. We would go to Grey, the local hotspot for teenagers, and dance all night. I have to admit we do have a good time but I’m ready for something new and exciting.
I finish getting the stuff from my locker and we continue walking down the hall. Madison begins making fun of our algebra teacher who is, I hate to say it, the biggest nerd you will ever meet and a fashion disaster. I on the other hand drift off into my own little world like I always do. I am brought back to reality when I hear a loud crash on the floor. I look straight ahead and see a girl picking up a bunch of books. From the way she is crouched down I can’t see her face. Her long dirty blonde hair falls down around her face. She suddenly looks up and looks directly at me. I avert my eyes back to Sherry and Madison and begin laughing about whatever they were just talking about. Madison and Sherry soon see her and begin whispering to each other. I glance down at the girl and she is staring at me like she has seen a ghost or something. Our eyes meet and for some reason I get chills. She has most gorgeous blue eyes and a perfect face. She must be new because I definitely would have remembered her. We keep walking and before we turn to go to class I look behind me to see her one last time.
