The College Life – (Chapter: Chapter 22: The (After) Life of the Party)

“Would you shut the fuck up? She’s not a slut.” I say, pushing Ashley out of the way so that I can stand in between the two of them and get that much closer to Cole.

“What’s this Davies? You have other people fighting your battles for you now? What, are you two together or something?” Cole asks, addressing that last question to me.

“Maybe we are, what’s it to you?” I ask, taking another step towards Cole and feeling adrenaline start to pump through my body.

Cole laughs at my response. “Yeah that will last all of two weeks, maybe three; if you’re lucky. Every girl thinks they can change her and make her commit to them, and every girl is shot down and proved wrong.” This time it’s me who begins to clench their fists and I feel myself getting dangerously close to my breaking point. I can’t believe someone can disrespect another person to this extent. And the fact that the ‘other person’ is Ashley, someone I care about deeply, is only fueling my aggression. “No one can change Ashley Davies, kid.” Cole says to me and I narrow my eyes when she addresses me as ‘kid’. She then proceeds to lean over my shoulder to get closer to Ashley. “Once a slut, always a slut.” I look over my shoulder to see Ashley, still head down, wiping tears from her eyes.

That was it. I’ve had enough. I suddenly feel a surge of energy and use it all to barrel my shoulder into Cole’s stomach and ram her into the wall, pushing people out of the way in the process. I hear her let out a grunt when she’s sandwiched between me and the wall. I felt no control over my actions as my eyes adjust to what seems like tunnel vision and everything around me fades out except Cole. When I raise my shoulder off of her, she slumps down to the ground hard. I see my fists flying, but feel no pain when I connect with her face. I was in a blinding rage and I saw no end of it. I was still flinging my arms and legs when I felt someone take me by the arms and drag me out of the café, trying my hardest to fight their grip so I could get back to Cole. It wasn’t until I was outside and saw Ashley standing beside me that I stopped moving. I looked around and couldn’t remember how I got outside and what had happened in order to get me out here. I look at the bouncer and give him a questioning look.
