I open the door to see Kyla lying on her bed watching TV with some guy. I don’t even notice who it is as I sit down on my bed trying to collect tonight’s events.

“Spencer are you okay?” I hear Kyla say.

I look up at her only to have my night grow a little darker. “Oh my God.” I whisper to myself as I recognize the guy Kyla’s with is no other then Aiden. I let out a sigh and lay down on my bed. Kyla must have caught on because I could still see her darting her eyes between Aiden and me.

“You know Aiden?” Kyla asks.

“Yeah.” I let out in a chuckle. “Hey Aiden.” I say without looking over at him.

“Hey Spencer, how’s Ashley?” I feel blood start to pump through my body at the sound of her name. I look over at him to give him the best glare that I can muster and see Kyla’s failed attempt to warn him not to say anything about her.

“Ashley?” I say as I sit up and swing my legs over so that my feet are settled on the floor. “Funny you should mention her. Carmen and I saw her tonight at the movies with some girl. We were being pretty obvious that we knew each other and Carmen caught on.” They both look on with anticipation written all over their faces. “Yeah, she broke up with me.” I feel tears on the verge but this time I let them fall as I crash face first into my pillow.

“Um, Aiden could I have some time with Spencer?” I hear Kyla say. “How about you call me tomorrow and we’ll make plans.” After I hear Aiden leave I feel Kyla sit on my bed and gently rub my back. “Are you okay?”

That was a stupid question. “Do I look okay to you?” I say loudly, still sobbing into my pillow.

“Yeah that was kind of a stupid question, sorry. Well tell me all what happened.”

After telling her what happened then we were both sitting upright on my bed, me at the top resting on the headboard and Kyla at the foot of the bed.

“So you haven’t gotten over Ashley yet? Even when you were dating Carmen?”

“Apparently not. I knew I hadn’t gotten over her but I figured I just needed more time and eventually it would go away.” Yeah it sounded stupid when I said it out loud.

“Well do you think Ashley still likes you?”

“What does it matter, she was with some other girl anyway.”

“Yeah well so were you.”

I nod at the observation. “That is true.”

“Why don’t you try to talk to her? What’s there to lose?”

“I’ve tried talking to her before, remember how that worked out?”

“Well try again. Give her a second chance. Don’t let one small mishap ruin what could be. If it ends as bad as the first time did then it wasn’t mean to be.” She takes my hand into both of hers and I meet her eyes. “But if you sit here and think ‘what if’ then you’ll never know for sure and go on regretting it for the rest of your life. What you feel for Ashley is rare and precious and you can’t just throw something like that away. The way you talk about her then I even want to be in love with her.” I chuckle at her. “Spencer you have to go for it; you have to take that leap. Or else you’ll be stuck here wondering what could have happened when we both know what should happen.”

A small smile appears on my face and I know she’s right. I’ve got to get my woman back.
