The Butterfly Effect – (Chapter: Aiden and the Blockbuster)

Ashley and Glen have messed around with explosives before and she knows just how loud this is going to be. Well, that’s what she tells herself. She likes to make herself believe that it’s all good natured. Her mind may think that, but her heart knows better. Her heart knows more about life than her mind is able to process at this age. The throbbing organ in her head simply tells her that the adrenaline is the reason her heart is fluttering so much. And when Spencer covers Ashley’s hand with one of her own the only reason her heart speeds up is because she knows the mailbox is going to explode at any moment.

Glen recognizes it though. He knows this is more than just friendly compassion, and he doesn’t like it. Not one bit.

    Three Minutes Later

"What the hell come on! Ashley get him up!"

Ashley stumbles forward in confusion. "What the hell happened? Where are we?"

"Oh my God what did we do?" Spencer questions with tears running down her face.

"Come on help me!" Glen shouts loudly.

"Aiden what happened to you?" Ashley questions as she helps Glen carry him through the woods.

"Everything’s gonna be alright, its fine."

    Twelve Minutes Later

"What’s wrong with him? Why isn’t he speaking?" Aiden’s mother questions the paramedic frantically.

"What is it? What happened?" Christine shouts as she runs away from the ambulance, across her lawn, towards her daughter.

"We were just in the woods building a fort when Aiden freaked out. Then he was okay, and then he just froze up, right guys?" He questions, hoping his two conspirators will back him up.

Christine shakes her head at Glen’s story. "What happened Ashley? The truth."

    "I don’t know… I don’t remember."

"Something must have happen, something set him off!" She shouts as tears stream down her daughters face.

    "I blacked out!"

"Don’t try to use your blackouts to get out of this one." She says sternly.

The brunette doesn’t speak. She simply cries. That’s when Christine knows. Ashley isn’t using her disability as an excuse like she tends to do. This time it’s real.

Aiden’s hurt and Ashley honestly doesn’t know why he’s shutting down… She doesn’t understand the guilt that’s fucking with Aiden’s mind, forcing it shut down, and shut everyone out.

Aren’t they just so fucking cool?
