    Saviors – (Chapter: Stairs)

They ate in silence just staring at the other across the table. Spencer ordered them a pair of waters, and the bartender looked for a second at Ashley then turned to get them.

Finally Spencer had to ask, “What is this place to you?”

                “What do you mean?”

“You seem to come here a lot, I mean everyone knows you, but they seem to tread lightly. Even the bartender seemed to be startled that you would eat or drink water.”

“I come here probably four or five times a week. Sometime I play and sometimes I don’t. People talk to me but they don’t touch me after a young man tried to steal a kiss and I broke his wrist and his jaw.  Normally I drink vodka.”

“She gives you vodka? Aren’t you underage?”

“Yes but Kat worries about me.”

The bartender finished as she brought the waters, “If she drinks here I can keep an eye on her and she usually spends the night. If I don’t serve her she goes somewhere else and gets into trouble.”

“Dare I ask what kind of trouble?”

“Drugs mostly. Driving with a BAC of .6.” Ashley winced at the memory, “Almost died that night. Would have to if the Barracuda hadn’t run out of gas.”

Kat looked guilty, “That was me. I siphoned most of the gas out of the tank so you wouldn’t be able to make it more than a mile from here.”

“I would be mad at you but I’m still alive so I owe.” Ashley looked at the bartender for a second with true appreciation then turned back to Spencer, “You ready to go? It’s eleven and I don’t want to piss off your dad. He seems like an okay guy.”

“Yea here let me get the bill.”

Kat just waved her away, “That was one of the best sets I’ve heard in years, and we have you to thank for that. Plus Ashley has a tab. It’s nothing.”

Ashley put a mock glare on the bartender, “I don’t want this to show up on YouTube, alright. It’s bad enough all the other sets you have on there.”
