Reluctance – (Chapter: I See You Standing There)

She turns back over and yawns. She places her hand on my cheek and leans in and kisses me, her eyes still closed. "Should you sleep?" she mumbles.

"I have the rest of my life to sleep," I say close to her face.

"But I want you to sleep with me," she whines, her eyes openning finally.

"Thought we did that last night." She burries her face in my neck and laughs, her breathe sending chills down my spine as it hits my neck.

"I didn’t mean any pun with that," she sighs, sending more chills through me.

I pull her back and kiss her, her bottom lip between mine. I pull back and look her in the eyes. "I lost you for awhile there, and I just want to endulge in having you here in my arms." I look down, blushing for the first time in years.

"I can…… can’t believe you said that," she kisses my forehead. "Are you finally opening up to me Ash?" it’s not playfull, but sincere.

I look up and I have tears in my eyes, "You’re the only person who’s never given up on me and I’ve said it before, but no matter how many times I say it it doesn’t add up to how much it means to me." She wipes my tears away.

"Oh, Ash, how could I give up on you. You’re amazing, even with the stupid things you do."

    "Thank you Spencer……. thank you."

"Can I ask you one thing though? I don’t want you to get mad or worry or anything, it’s just something I need to know. It doesn’t effect us anymore, okay, remember that?"

"You can ask me whatever you want."

"Why’d you…… cheat….. on me?" She looks away from me and I can feel a knot in my throat and it becomes hard to breathe.

I rack my brain for words to explain, but I’ve never been able to explain things the way they are, I always screw up…… except for last night. "I……," I sigh at my failed attempt. She looks back at me and whispers ‘please’ in my ear. It breaks my heart, because her voice cracks and I know the pain I caused her is still there…….. it always will be.
