Reflections In The Rearview – (Chapter: Chapter 10)
“Mmm, sorry”
“Hey so long as you don’t do it when it matters”
“Like you?”
Ashley lowered her head in embarrassment.
“That was a low blow Carlin” she murmured.
Spencer sat up in her seat, stretching her arms high above her head. The intercom speaker suddenly crackled and a whiny voice echoed through the room.
“Good morning students, this is Principal Stuart. I just wanted to remind you that hall passes are mandatory during class time. If you are without one you will receive detention. On a happier note I’d like to congratulate our varsity basketball team for winning our game against Franklin last night, thanks to everyone who came out to support King High.”
Applause rang out in the room, as jocks began to high-five one another.
“Also for those of you who signed up for the Ski Trip and managed to turn in your deposits on time your first period teachers will be bringing around information packets. Please make sure to pack lightly as you’ll be sharing rooms at the lodge. That is all.”
Ashley groaned.
“What? What is it?” Spencer asked as Ms. Ivers handed her the info packet.
“I forgot all about the ski trip!” Ashley cried.
“Oh yeah? Well it’s gonna be a ton of fun … I’m so glad you’re going” Spencer gushed.
“Yeah Spence … a lot of fun I’m going to have with a broken leg.”
Spencer’s smile disappeared, she flipped open the folder and stared at the brochure for the lodge they would be staying at. It looked absolutely beautiful set in the Sierra Nevadas.
“Well I’m sure there are plenty of other things to do besides skiing Ash. Hey look there’s a hot tub-“
“Can’t get the cast wet”
“Oh and ice skating-“
“Yet another activity that requires two feet”
“What about sleigh rides in the snow?”
“Well now … maybe that might work …” Ashley said giving Spencer a mischievous smile and a quick wink.
“Hmm Ms. Davies you know it’s highly possibly we might be sharing a room together” Spencer replied softly.
Ashley’s eyes glinted. Maybe this whole ski trip won’t be nearly as bad as I thought.
Ms. Ivers began to pass out room assignments. Ashley clutched the tiny sheet of paper and her face became white as a ghost. “You have got to be kidding me!” she yelped glaring at the Latina situated at the back of the room. “There is no way I’m sharing a room with her!”
Madison noticing the brunettes yelling became enraged. “Well it’s not like I want to share a room with you either you dinosaur!”
Spencer rolled her eyes and looked at her room assignment.
“Who’d you get?” Ashley asked.
“Ruth Cooper” Spencer looked perplexed. “Who’s she?” Spencer asked the brunette.
“Not the faintest clue” Ashley replied. “Well looks like I’m in for the weekend from hell.”
Spencer just nodded her head and tried to focus on Ms. Ivers who was starting their lesson.
This could all be so romantic … damnit Ash why’d you have to get hit by a car?
