    Too much honesty can ruin a ‘good’ thing

    “We got here and found a note from Spencer,” Aiden spoke up, his arm outstretched, pointing in the direction of the large whiteboard we had on the wall opposite the door – the majority of the walls were glass so it had been hard finding a place to put it.  It’d also rarely been used, so seemed pointless, until Spencer had arrived and, after just one day in the office, had made it her duty to leave random uplifting messages on it every morning, to no doubt brighten our days and enrich our lives.  She was just too much of a bloody ray of sunshine.  It reminded me of how she was at Track One – she was the people’s favourite back then too… my favourite… the one who uplifted and motivated.  Damn her.

    [I]“Ready yourself, guys… the solution to all our problems has been found.”[/I]

    “Wow, vague much?” I asked.  Due to my excellent powers of observation I had noticed that Spencer wasn’t yet in the office, and so quickly came to the correct conclusion that she must have written her message up there after I had left the night before.  We had stayed at the office until quite late, but, as a way of ensuring I didn’t spend too much time with her, particularly [I]outside[/I] working hours, I’d made excuses to leave a little early and pretty much bolted from DJC as soon as I felt we had finally hit upon something half decent.  I assumed she’d stayed for a while longer and truly found ‘the solution to all our problems’, as what we had managed to pull together when I was there had hardly been advertising gold.

    “That’s what we thought,” Aiden sighed, “so we’ve been ‘readying ourselves’ ever since we got here.”

    “It’s hard work,” Ed winked.

    “Looks it,” I smiled, noting how Aiden’s feet were resting casually upon his desk and how Ed had even gone as far as removing his shoes and his tie before settling down with a box of Krispy Kreme donuts.  [I]Casually[/I] was certainly how we did things in the creative office at DJC.  I reached for a donut only to have my hand quickly swatted away by Ed.  “Still not a sharer after two years, Ed?”
