Paging Doctor Carlin. – (Chapter: Missed call)

“Good morning” I was greeted my Carmen who laughed at the hung over and baffled face I was making.

“Uh…” I dragged myself over to a chair. “What…um…where…did we have sex last night?”

Carmen looked shocked for a second and then laughed at me. Not chuckled, laughed. I thought she was going to fall over. Is that a no, or is that a yes. After a minute she regained her composure.

“Call me old fashion, but I prefer my women awake, and conscious.” she said and I let out a sigh “I stayed on the couch, you were pretty out of it, and I wanted to make sure you were okay”

“Thank you, I really appreciate it.” I said, relieved.

“But someone called for you” she said, and I tensed up. “I think it was your neighbor/ex/patient Ashley” crap.

“Oh, did she say anything?” crap crap crap crap!

“Just that she’d call back tomorrow” she said, placing a cup of coffee in front of me. “Ok well I better go home, and get ready for my shift this afternoon.”

    “Thanks Carmen, I appreciate it.”

    “Anytime Spencer”

With that Carmen left and I was freaking out… a little….ok a lot. I didn’t sleep with her, but what if Ashley thinks I did? Wait. It’s not like we’re going out. Its not like I cheated on her. All the same I still don’t want Ashley to think that something happened while she was away.

I kept my phone on me for the rest of the day, just incase, it was glued to my hand. Its now 8pm and nothing. No Ashley. So I decide to prepare dinner.

“Tony’s Pizza, can I take your order?”

“Hi, can I have a large pie with sausage, peppers, pine-apple, and extra cheese”

“Ma’am, that’s gross” the boy answered, his voice cracking”

“Just deliver it to 1021 tenth street” I told him.

Just then the call waited started to beep in. “Gottagothankyou” I rushed off the phone with the pizza place and answered the waiting call.

“HELLO??” I answered afraid I’d miss it.

“Ciao, Spencer” I heard Ashley’s voice come through, and my whole body tingled.

    “Hey Ash, how is everything”

“Everything is good. Except I miss you terribly”

“I miss you too” I sighed. “what are you up to?”

“Not a lot. I couldn’t sleep and you were sleeping this morning when I called.”

“Isn’t it like 4 am in Italy?” I asked trying to stay off the topic of last night.

“Yeah something like that. So what’s wrong? You weren’t feeling well?”

“Oh no, I was just very hung over and my FRIEND Carmen from work stayed to make sure I was ok the night before”

Ashley was laughing. “You know you shouldn’t drink. Don’t you remember what happened in high school, when I was performing at Gray’s open mic night?”

“I know, I know, what can I say? I have the tolerance of a 10 year old”

    We both laughed.

“So this Carmen…” Ashley started and I couldn’t help but smile

“Ashley Davies. Are you jealous?” I teased

“Very” she admitted. “She is just a friend?”

“Just a friend” I confirmed. “I’m holding out for this one girl”

    “And who might that be?”

    “Jennifer Garner”
