Night Terrors – (Chapter: Betrayal Should Be A Deadly Sin)

“Mrs. Carlin actually introduced us.” Of course she did, Paula is a manipulative bitch.

“Aiden is the son of a friend of mine so I couldn’t resist him meeting Spencer.” Paula explains arrogantly.

“Did Spencer have a say in any of this?” I mutter thoughtlessly. Spencer looks stunned at my words and the small smile appearing on Mr. Carlin’s face doesn’t go unnoticed. I can practically see steam coming out of Paula’s ears; she looks about ready to stab me with the fork she’s gripping too tightly.

“Can I use the washroom?” Max asks suddenly, interrupting whatever Paula was about to say.

“Yeah it’s down the hall to the right; um do you need me to show you?” Arthur stands up.

“No its okay thanks.” Max leaves and Arthur sits back down reluctantly. He pours a generous portion of wine in his glass and I can’t help but envy him.

“I’m sorry if I’m out of line here but what business is it of yours who Spencer goes out with?” questions Aiden. What business is it of mine?

“It’s my business because I love her, and she should be with me.” I finally tell her the three words I’ve never told anyone before. I stare into her eyes, yielding to her my heart and the love I feel for her. Tears well up in her eyes and I sit on the edge of my seat waiting anxiously for her to say something.

“That’s absurd, Spencer is not some sick dyke; she’s been brought up better than that.” Aiden’s voice shatters my Spencer induced haze.

“You don’t know who she is and just because your pig headed and closed-minded doesn’t mean everyone else is.” I reply icily.

“I know her better than you and I know she wouldn’t entertain the idea of being with a woman.”

“She did more than entertain the idea.” I smirk. Aiden stands up abruptly, forcing his chair to the floor.

“I will not let you speak about her like that!” He yells aggressively.

“Yet you and Paula are the ones judging her.” I say against my better judgment.

“Okay enough!” Spencer intervenes. She places a hand on his shoulder. “Aiden it’s getting late, I’ll walk you to your car.” She takes his huge hand and leads him out of the room, once again walking away from me. I slouch in my seat and run my hand over my face. Max is right, I am a fucking idiot. Not only did I make an ass out of myself, I admitted my love for her in front of her family. I should of pulled her aside and just talked to her and should never have disrespected her and her family, even if Paula is my enemy.
