“Spencer… Spencer wake up!” Ashley’s muffled voice rang through my ears.

“Alright, alright I’m up.”

I opened my eyes to see my girlfriend straddling my waist with her face only a mere inch from mine. Ashley had a look of desperation and that was all it took to completely wake me.

“Baby what’s wrong?” I said, sitting up and wrapping my arms around her waist.

“Um, well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your parents are downstairs waiting for you in the kitchen.”

Ashley flinched, waiting for me to explode, but instead I surprised her with a soft kiss on the lips. For some reason I had a hard time panicking when I had Ashley by my side.

“Alright, I’ll get dressed and be right down.” I told the smiling brunette and she got up to head downstairs.

After Ashley had left the room, I finally began to feel my nerves get the best of me as I rushed around the bedroom trying to find something to wear. Throwing on my gray UCLA hooded sweatshirt and some matching sweatpants, I did my best to hurry downstairs and rescue Ashley from god knows what kind of inquisition my mother was putting her through.

“Mom, Dad, so good to see you.” I blurted out upon entering the kitchen.

To my surprise though everyone was laughing… even my mom.

“Oh hey honey.” My replied through a fit of laughter and then gave me a big hug. “Ashley here was just entertaining us with the story of how you two met.”

“Oh god.” I started blushing like crazy in my embarrassment and Ashley continued smirking at me.

“You see Ashley, Spencer got her lead foot from her mother.” My dad teased, causing my mom to shoot him a look, which had us all laughing.

Watching Ashley interact with my mom had me thinking maybe this whole coming out process wouldn’t be as hard as I thought. I mean, Paula’s pretty hard to please and Ashley -and her oh so charming self- already had her cracking up and they just met.

“So, Mrs. Carlin, what do you think of the condo?”

“Oh please Ashley, call me Paula. And the condo is beautiful dear.”

I just gawked in amazement at my mother’s sincerity towards Ashley. This was so not like her at all.
