    Missing Sun

Edward arrived eventually, sighing as he caught sight of me, scooping me up into his arms.

"How did she take it?" I thought blankly. It was even more of a struggle than usual to pull down my shield.

"All right. She felt sorry for me, I could hear her think it." he replied, out loud.

I sighed and snuggled into him as he ran swiftly and gracefully back to the big house. Esme pulled me out of Edward's arms as soon as I entered, hugging me to her.

"I'm so sorry. I should have watched her, I shouldn't have let her wander off, I could have looked after her, she could have stayed in cleaning… I…" Esme gushed. Then she handed me back to Eward and turned into Carlisle's chest, sobbing tearlessly.

"You couldn't know. There's nothing any of us could have done." I croaked.

"But there is something we can do now." Carlisle interjected, "We can look for Nessie."

I groaned as the pain washed over me, but I managed to hold my scream inside. Leaving a fire of pain burning a hole in my heart.

I knocked on the door before entering. It was time to question Emmett. Rosalie sat on the end of his bed, her head in her hands, and Carlisle stood at the end of his bed looking worn, tired even.

But Emmett was infinitely worse. His face that was usually round and gleeful was sallow, pinched. His wide mouth which was usually upturned in a broad grin was fixed in a miserable frown. The circles under his eyes were almost black and his eyes so black that you couldn't tell the pupil from the iris.

"How is he?" I mouthed to Carlisle.

"He won't eat." murmured Rosalie, stroking his tortured face "He blames himself."

I suddenly noticed that Emmett was fixed to the bed. I looked questionably at Carlisle, gesturing at the chunky chains.

"He keeps trying to… end his life. This is the only way we manage to keep him alive." Carlisle answered my silent question.

"Emmett?" I whispered, crouching down. His eyes flickered open, and his pitch black pupils looked in anguish at me, practically begging for death.

"Bella!" He cried "I'm so so so sorry! I tried to find her! She's GONE!" He began to sob. Rosalie groaned.
