i just wanted you to know – (Chapter: interesting, to say the least)

After arriving at the school, the two girls got out of Ashley’s car and began heading towards the quad.  Aiden wasn’t at school today, because the basketball team was attending a tournament in San Diego.

I’m kind of glad Aiden’s not here today.  I mean, he’s an awesome friend and all, but sometimes he just gets in the way of things with me and Ashley.

They weren’t holding hands yet, but Spencer had been brushing her hand up against Ashley’s as they walked.  She slowly wrapped her fingers around Ashley’s, and even though her walking slowed, her hear rate sped up at a rate that probably wasn’t healthy.

Suddenly they realized the huge green and gold banners that hung all around the school.  Ashley was confused for a moment, because she had no clue why they were there.

"Oh I completely forgot! Today’s pep rally day!" Spencer exclaimed.

"…great.  Go Anacondas!" Ashley faked enthusiasm.

"Ash, how many times to I have to tell you? We’re the Cobras. Not the Anacondas.  And besides, this means we get to sit with eachother in the gym for half the day.  Don’t try to convince me you won’t like that."

"Whatever.  But that’s the only reason I’m glad we have these school spirit shindigs.  I’m so not a fan of these things."

Spencer laughed at her friend.  "Come on, we have to go to class.  But I’ll see you at the rally.  Meet me in the commons first, and we’ll go from there, ok?"

    "Alright. See ya then.  Lov–"

    "what?"

"oh..nothing. I was just saying about how I love the grass in the quad…after they um,..cut it. and all…"

"Oh, really?" Spencer smiled at Ashley.

"Yes, really. Now go to class.  You wouldn’t want to be late, would you"

"Fine. Whatever. But Ash? I love the grass too.  After they cut it, I mean." She winked at Ashley, and walked away.

Where the hell did that come from?  I love the grass?  Well, at least now I know she’s a bad liar. And when did I become the straight-forward one in the group?  Now Ashley’s the one who’s nervous all the time.

    (In the commons)

Ashley scanned the crowd for Spencer.  It didn’t take long for her to spot  her blonde friend.
