The bell rang and it was time for lunch. Spencer headed out to the lunch tables. She stood for a moment and scanned the area for Ashley.

Ashley: “Hey Spencer over here!!!” Spencer looked up and saw Ashley waving her over to the table. Spencer also noticed a guy with black hair at the table sitting next to Ashley.

Spencer’s thoughts: “Crap! I knew it, she has a boyfriend.” Spencer felt hurt, but tried to hide it as she walked over to the table and sat down across from Ashley.

Ashley: “ Hey Spence, this is Aiden the annoying jock, Aiden this is Spencer.” Ashley smirked.

Aiden: “ASH!!!” Aiden yelled.

Spencer: “Hi.” Spencer said weakly giving Aiden a forced smile.

Ashley: “Spence…what’s wrong?” Ashley gave a concerned look.

Spencer: “I…” Spencer looked at Ashley then at Aiden

Spencer’s thoughts: “How could she possibly know something is bothering me? I just met her today, she doesn’t know me. I don’t know her. I can’t have feelings for her already, in just these few hours that I’ve known her. What am I even supposed to tell her, I can’t even think of anything to say.”

Spencer: “I…I…” Just then a girl walked up and kissed Aiden.

???: “Hey babe, sorry I’m kind of late. I had to talk to my teacher about the next play.” All Spencer could do was smile. She was so happy.

???: “Oh, hi. You must be new here, I’m Kyla.” Kyla put her hand out in front of Spencer.

Spencer: “Yeah, I’m Spencer. I just moved here from Ohio.” Spencer shook Kyla’s hand and looked back at Ashley and smiled again. Kyla and Aiden began talking.

Ashley: “So what was wrong Spence?” She said, still looking concerned.

Spencer: “Uh…nothing. Nothing at all.” she smiled at Ashley, and Ashley smiled back. “Did you just call me Spence?”

Ashley: “Uh…yea, it just seemed right. Like that nick name fit’s you…why? Is it ok? Because if it’s not I’ll stop, I mean, you can tell me what you want to be called or…” Ashley was rambling but Spencer cut her off.

Spencer: “Ash! It’s ok.” Spencer put her hand on Ashley’s and gave a soft smile. Ashley smiled nervously and looked down at Spencer’s hand on hers. Spencer Removed her hand and her soft smile became a nervous one.
