Grace on Fire – (Chapter: A Date with Death)
“Is it just me or does it seem really wrong for a mortal to flirt with death?” Ashley asked, her eyes looking over towards the busy street.
“Well if she knew I’m sure she’d be screaming and running in the other direction.” he responded while folding his paper and setting it down on the table. The front headline read “35 Killed in Baghdad Terrorist Attack”
He noticed the vacant look in his friend’s eyes. It bothered him. “How’s it going?”
“How do you think it’s going Aiden?” Her gaze diverted back to across the table. “I’m fuckin waiting around, working a bullshit job when I can be out there doing what I’m good at.”
“I’m guessing that means you didn’t get the promotion.”
“Brilliant deduction Captain Obvious.”
Aiden couldn’t help but roll his eyes. He’d known Ashley for centuries and she’d always been the same way; perpetually pissed off. “I’ve got your haul for the day.” He stated, pulling out a silver flask that was engraved with the words Psalm 23:4 on it.
“Wrong one.” she pointed out.
He stared at it a moment before smacking his head lightly and digging in his backpack for a few minutes and brought out another flask, also silver but with a different inscription. This one had Revelation 13:8 written across its cool metal form.
“What’ve I got this time?”
“9 Murderers, 6 Rapists, 1 Arsonist, 3 Robbers, and a partridge in a pare-tree.” The joke fell flat but it did make the corners of Ashley’s mouth turn up slightly. The waitress showed up along with her drink and she began gulping it down as soon as it was set in front of her. This in turn made the woman frown in disgust temporarily before plastering on a smile and asking Aiden again if he needed anything.
He courteously said no and watched the woman walk away, noticing the extra sway of her hips before she disappeared back into the restaurant. To say he was slightly attracted to her would be a bold-faced lie. Aiden didn’t find anything like that woman worth noting.
“For something whose purpose is to take lives, you’re inexplicably polite to them.” She said, setting down her now empty beer and lifting an eyebrow at her friend.
He merely shrugged at the observation and turned his attentions back towards her. “Why don’t we go out tonight?”
“What do you mean ‘out’?”
“I mean go out on the town and have some fun. I know you like going to clubs. All those raging hormones and reckless desire filling up the air the humans breathe; how can you say no?”
The prospect was enticing to say the least. She hadn’t been out in a while and she desperately needed to let off some steam. Plus, there were always bodies begging to be conquered by her talented hands. Getting swept up in the alcohol and the music, leaving the inhibitions at the door, none of them stood a chance to Ashley’s charm. “Fine. But I get to pick where.” her hand grabbed her respective flask and stuffed it into an inside pocket on her jacket. She eyed the other flask before it was swept up in Aiden’s grasp and put back in his backpack.
“Nice try. Anyways I’ll pick you up around 9 and we’ll head out.”
“Sure. I’ll see you then.” She left the table and Aiden behind. Her strides took her within a few steps of the waitress and with a malicious thought in her mind, the woman tripped on her own feet and sent several bowls of hot soup flying towards the customers.
Ashley smiled and walked away from the chaos.

you know what I think would improve this story? Somewhere along the line someone saying “Tithead, go with my father”. It will make me the most satisfied person EVER. Until that moment, however, I must inform you I think this fic is awesome – kinda reminds me of the movie Dogma too, which is all good as Little Nicky and Dogma are both cracking :-D keep up the good work!

Ok, it’s very contstantine, but given that i’m tempted to write a story so close to “the bodyguard” at least you picked a decent movie. I’m guessing SPencer will be an angel. That’s ok. I’m loving this. i’m loving your writing. Keep it up please!! Much interest in this story.
