Going Back – (Chapter: Does Extraordinary Exist?)

    Chapter 4 Does Extraordinary Exist?

    Present Time

    Count down 3 hours

She never liked me giving her compliments. In fact, she never liked attention at all. She just liked blending in, unfortunately for her, she could never just blend in.

Mia cuddled up close to me over the arm rest. How this kid could sleep in these chairs is beyond me, I guess catching the red eye was smart. It put us landing at 7 am and getting to the Carlin’s at about 8 or 8:30 am. Mia tightened her grip on my arm as I started my descend back into the memories I had locked up. That last past year and a half especially when Spencer had a boyfriend along with stringing me along. This was the year everything blew up in my face. This was the year I ended up running.

    17 almost 18 years old

Spencer had told me that after her brother died that her mom had put a lot of pressure on her. School, future plans, dictating her every decision, including dating and the thought of marriage. Paula Carlin was conservative. She was old fashion. She would set Spencer up on dates, invited them over for family nights, and would slowly start Spencer to push me out of her life. Mr. C was always supportive of me and would always be on mine and Spencer’s side. He would include me. While Mrs. C pushed me away, Mr. C pulled me back. I was a thorn in Spencer’s life. She said she always wanted me around no matter what, but I couldn’t help the thought that maybe she would just be better off.

Spencer was dating Patrick O’Dell. He went to the Carlin’s church and Mrs. C thought they would be perfect. He was an ass, that didn’t give Spencer a fraction of what she really deserved. One night Spencer and I talked about it.

    “Hey Spin”

“Hey…” She tried to hide her low mood but I knew better

    “What’s wrong?”

    “Nothing don’t worry about it”
“No tell me…Please…. I’m here for you”

    “It’s just Patrick”

“What about him” I tried to hide my disgust of hearing his name

    “He’s been distant…. And smoking more…. Not calling… just…. He doesn’t get me… you know?… he‘s learning…. But he doesn‘t get it”
