Give Up Forever To Touch You – (Chapter: 4)

“It’s an elective valve, I rescheduled it.” The taller girl walked forward slowly now standing only a foot away from the blonde. Her voice softened, “Babe, I saw the charts … it wasn’t your fault. It was textbook.”

The brunette in corner kicked her feet off the counter and leant forward resting her hands on her knees.

“We fight for people’s lives in here, right?” the doctor looked at her companion through pained eyes, “Don’t you ever wonder who it is we’re fighting?” she exclaimed.

Kyla paused a little surprised at the blonde’s sudden outburst. “You’re tired, you need sleep. Why didn’t you call me?”

“I don’t sleep when you stay over.” Spencer pointed out.

The raven-haired girl frowned, “You don’t sleep whether I stay over or not”

Spencer stared down at her sneakers; she shuffled her feet back and forth worriedly. Kyla inched forward brushing the hair out Spencer’s face, cupping her cheek in her hand. “Take the week off” she whispered.

Spencer returned to her home and spent the day sifting through medical books. She didn’t know what she was trying to solve but the business and monotony of it all was soothing to her in a way. Taking a break she walked into the kitchen and poured herself a glass of soymilk. Snagging a pear off the counter she hopped up on the nearest free space and ate her lunch. Her feet dangled in the air, normally she would smile as the cold air tickled her toes, normally she would find enjoyment in a “sick day”, normally she would wrap herself in a warm beach towel on her lawn chair and just nap the day away. Normal left when Tom had slipped out of her hands. Everything had been textbook, she had followed every rule, guideline, step to the tee. She knew she hadn’t screwed up, so why couldn’t she save him?

“I think I’ll go to Boston,
I think that I’m just tired
I think I need a new town, to leave this all behind…
I think I need a sunrise, I’m tired of the sunset,
I hear it’s nice in the summer, some snow would be nice…
Boston…where no one knows my name…”

Ashley heard a teenage girl of no more then sixteen sing inside her head.

Gordo Music. Home to music lovers and celestial beings alike. The building was home to Los Angeles largest public CD exchange program. People could come into the store and go into one of the many private rooms and listen to cds. They then could take that disc home, renting it for the week. Ashley loved music. She found it one of the most soothing sounds. Lyrics were powerful, and deep. They conjured up a certain level of interest to Ashley. The brunette walked towards one of the private listening rooms and saw a middle-aged man through the glass he stood there thoughtfully staring at a Simon & Garfunkel cd jacket.

    “They see me rollin
    They hatin
Patrolling they tryin to catch me ridin dirty
Tryin to catch me ridin dirty
    Tryin to catch me ridin–”

Ick. That is definitely NOT Simon & Garfunkel. Ashley had heard enough, she moved on to the next room.

A little girl was jumping around inside the room, screaming at the top her lungs the newest Jesse McCartney song.

Ok seriously people can we get our good music on please?

Ashley walked over to the alternative rock aisle. A couple customers passed by her, taking no notice of the brunette. Ashley brushed her fingers across the tops of the discs. Over the years she watched music change and evolve. It was the one thing that she ever really took great interest in, and she was partially grateful that Gordo Music was the place the angels had decided to call their home, at least for this century.

Aha. She thought to herself, Got it. She pulled a dusty cd out of the rack.
