Family – (Chapter: 2 ~ Natural)
“Jeez… the pens? How much time did you spend in the principal’s office?”
“More than I spent in class.” Spencer laughed but their conversation was interrupted by the doctor as she sat in the chair behind the desk and opened up the folder in front of her.
“Okay ladies… the results look good… and the other good news is that Spencer, you are ovulating sometime next week, and Ashley… yours should be coming up in a couple of days.” Both girls looked at each other smiling, but they could easily tell that they were both nervous as hell. “So, how do we want to do this thing? Have you decided?”
“We’ve talked it over and we decided that Spencer is going to carry this one.” Ashley answered while looking over at her wife making sure that she still wanted it this way. Spencer nodded in agreement. The doctor smiled at the two of them, and made a couple of notes on the papers.
“Okay, so… did you two want to do the artificial insemination, or did you want to go the more ‘natural’ root?”
“Um… actually, I was thinking we could try the ‘natural’ way… you know.” Spencer looked down at her hands. Ashley and her hadn’t discussed this, and Spencer was afraid that this might cause some problems.
“Um… okay… um… how come you never said anything about that?” Ashley looked over at Spencer, not angry, but extremely confused.
“I don’t know, but I don’t want to go against all of my religious upbringing. Will you be okay with that?” Spencer looked up at Ashley hoping to see her reaction.
“Um…” Ashley looked into Spencer’s eyes, and when she saw the pleading look, she smiled. “Yea, if that’s what you want, then that’s what we’ll do.” Spencer smiled back at Ashley and grabbed her hand turning her attention back to the doctor.
“Okay ladies, well, if you want we can make an appointment for a week after the end of Spencer’s ovulation period so that we can do a pregnancy test. And I can have the Relinquish of Parental Rights paperwork drafted up for the donor to sign by the time you leave today. Does that sound good for you?”
“Yes… that sounds like a plan.” Ashley answered and sent Spencer a grin. “That sounds like a perfect plan.”
“Alright then you two… if you’ll just have a seat in the waiting room, I’ll have those papers to you in a minute. And I know it’s a little early, but congratulations.” They all stood up and shook hands before walking back out into the waiting room.
“So… Do you have someone in mind for the donor?” Ashley asked as she played with Spencer’s fingers in her lap.
“Actually I do. There’s this guy at church that I think will be willing to do it. I’ve talked to him, and he was asked to do this for one of his friends, so it’s not like against it. Plus, for a guy he’s not bad looking.”
“So you’re checking out guys now? Am I not enough for?” Ashley smirked and laughed when Spencer lightly slapped her arm.
“No… but if you keep talking like that maybe I will just have to find someone that will give me EVERYTHING that I want.” Spencer smiled as she saw Ashley feigned hurt expression.
“And what have I ever not given you?”
“A foot massage.”
“Oh come on… seriously? You know I have a thing with feet. They’re gross… and if that’s all you’re looking for, I can always take you to get a pedicure.”
“I was just saying… anyways… this guy should be perfect. My family has known his for a while, and there aren’t any major hereditary illnesses, or birth defects in his family, so I think he’ll be perfect.”
“Okay, so what’s this ‘Perfect Male Specimen’s’ name?”
“Scott Bradley. I can call him today and maybe he can come over for dinner? I’ll cook and you can get to now him a little. Sound good?”
“Yea… Sounds fine.” Ashley gave Spencer a reassuring kiss on the cheek and then stood up when they saw a nurse bringing their paperwork over to them. They stepped up to the desk and made their next appointment, and then headed home.
