“Spencer I… I love you.” Ashley’s heart was thumping steadily and her stomach felt like it was full of butterflies. She searched Spencer’s face for any sign that she felt the same way. Standing there in the bright headlights of the Tahoe, the two girls just stared at each other. Their gazes never wavered from one another and neither one of them moved. Ashley lost herself in the blue ocean of Spencer’s eyes and Spencer just smiled. It was a few minutes before she said anything.

“Ashley, you are incredible. I’ve never ever felt this way about anyone. I love you too,” in the moment that Spencer said the words, Ashley’s heart soared. She brought her hands up to cup Spencer’s cheeks and she could feel the silk of her skin under her fingertips. As their lips inched closer to touching, they both knew that their relationship wouldn’t ever be the same.

The kiss would have just been a kiss if it had happened at any other time but it was not just a kiss. The moment their lips met, their hearts made a promise. Electricity surged in the air between them as they lost themselves in each other. Ashley pushed her fingers into Spencer’s long blonde hair, pressing her entire body into her. Spencer’s hands had found their way under Ashley’s shirt and were pressing against her bare back. It was a moment filled with love, desire and desperation to be closer to each other.

“Spencer,” she whispered her lips brushing against the other girl’s. “The night isn’t over yet.” She felt Spencer smile against her lips. When Ashley looked at her watch again it was after midnight.

“Come on Cinderella, let’s get you home.” The conversation in the car on the way home was steady, full of laughter and teasing. Both girls seemed completely at ease with each other. The lights in the house were dark when they arrived and they crept inside, shutting the front door quietly. Ashley removed her shoes by the door and padded silently to the stairs. Both girls made an extra effort to be silent by Paula and Ben’s door, Ashley could hear herself breathing and when Spencer touched her softly on the shoulder she nearly jumped out of her skin.
