Ever the Same – (Chapter: Ch. 3: Trees, Monsters, and Swings. Oh, My!)
"But I don’t think it has anywhere to go. It looked abandoned to me." the blonde pouted, "What if it dies?"
"Then it’ll go to a better place to act all evil."
"Oh, for the love of God, Ashley, cats are not evil!"
"Then fine, keep it. Take it home, if you feel so attached."
Spencer sighed, "I can’t."
Ashley sidestepped a tree and held back a branch so Spencer could pass, "Why not?"
"All the Carlin men are allergic." the blonde bit the inside of her cheek, "Yeah, even Clay and that’s not even biological."
"Sucks for you."
"Yeah," Spencer furrowed her brow in thought, "You know…You could-"
"Okay, I know what you’re going to say, and the answer is no!"
"But-"
"No!"
"Oh, c’mon-"
"No, no, and did I mention no!"
Spencer held the cat in her right arm as she moved closer to Ashley, hooking her left arm through the brunette’s right. She put on her most pathetic looking face and made her eyes wide. "Please?"
"That’s not fair," Ashley whined, "You know I’m a sucker for that face."
"Exactly," Spencer stated as she kept her pouting expression, "Please? Please, please?"
Ashley sighed in defeat, "Look, fine. I’ll just have to see how hard the upkeep is, and the first time that thing bites, scratches, or just attacks me, it’s gone."
"Yes! Thank you!" Spencer squealed as she kissed Ashley on the cheek.
Ashley rolled her eyes, "The things I do for you; I swear. First a song, and now a cat. What’s next? A dozen roses? A ring, even?"
"Don’t get ahead of yourself," Spencer laughed.
"Hey, I think I see an opening over there," Ashley pointed a ways in front of them where a large amount of light could be seen.
"Oh, thank God."
"No kidding. Now let’s go before you find a horse, or something."
"Oh, I already have one." Spencer stated as they walked out into the open.
"Do you?"
"Yeah, it’s at my aunt’s house back in Ohio. Technically it’s theirs, but I’m the only one that can really control him, so they say he’s mine."
"Well, that’s special."
"Uh, yeah, so…Where are we, now?" Spencer asked looking ahead seeing some old rusted play equipment. By the looks of it, no one had been there in years.
