Ever the Same – (Chapter: Ch. 24: The Ones at Ease Do Not Mix With Those Under Stress.)

Spencer sighed. Easy was pretty much a bum, but he was a better brother to her than Glen or even Clay had ever been. She loved him a lot, and he had always been her best friend when she lived there. No one else could compare. Even her friends from school weren’t as genuine to her as he was. She always smiled when she thought about the time where she told him about losing her virginity. Easy nearly lost his shit, and was so close to finding that prick, James, and beating him senseless. He was the only person Spencer had ever told about that experience. Until Ashley, that is.

She cleared her throat, “He works at the Sbarro Pizza in the food court at the mall.”

Ashley snorted. “Wow, he’s a real high aimer, eh?”

“It’s just so he has money,” the blonde explained while shooting a glare at the other girl. “He mostly focuses on his music, and he helps Aunt Cece around the ranch.”

“Wait,” the brunette’s interest was now peaked. “Music?”

“Yeah, he plays guitar.” Spencer looked over at the other girl and smiled for the first time since going outside, “He dreams of making it big and being in a band. Just like you.”

“Just like me…” Ashley repeated. She figured the subject change was a good idea seeing that her girlfriend was now calmer than before. So maybe she wouldn’t figure out why Spencer had been acting weird, but she could see her smile, and, for now, that was enough. “Where’s Cecile’s husband? Doesn’t he help out around here? Is he nice? Am I going to meet him?” Okay, major question overload.

The blonde frowned slightly, “Uncle Chuck…” she trailed off for a moment. “He died a few years ago. Cancer.”

Covering her mouth with her hand, the brunette gasped. “Spence, I’m sorry.”

“No, no no no!” Spencer reached out and pulled the girl’s hand from her mouth, “It’s okay. Really.”

    “I’m still sorry.”

The taller girl nodded. “He was an awesome person. If Easy wasn’t around, I always could talk to Chuck. No offense to Cecile, but his advice was a lot better.” The memory of everything made her smile. Sure, she missed her uncle lhke no other, but she promised him that she wouldn’t feel sad over his passing. “He’s buried out in the pasture under his favorite tree. It was my idea.” A single tear rolled down her cheek, but she was still smiling.
