Ever the Same – (Chapter: Ch. 14: The Pros and Cons of a Dare)

The week had seemed to drawl on forever, but finally school on Friday had come to a close. Time for a weekend with Ashley, Spencer thought to herself with a small smile. Well, that is if her parents let her. Let’s see: squishy dad…check. Arthur wouldn’t be an issue. Not so squishy mom…not so check. Paula, on the other hand, would prove to be a tougher egg to crack.

Well, whatever. Spending time with Ashley was worth an hour or so spat with her mother.

    –

The blonde was up in her room throwing random things into a duffle bag. The spat hadn’t been as bad as she’d expected, but of course her mother was looking for reasons for her to stay home. Apparently it was supposed to storm that night.

Golly gee, no! Not a storm!

But what it came down to was a chance to get away from her not so harmonious family. It’s true; the ‘Brady Bunch’ had nearly gone to crap. Her parents were fighting more and more, and Spencer had no idea why. She figured it was because her mother was constantly at work and hardly ever home. Either that or the constant bickering about the blonde’s relationship with Ashley. If they knew they were actually together? God forbid. The newfound hostile state of the family would increase ten fold times one-thousand. And that, Spencer thought to herself, is an understatement.

So, here was Spencer, up in her room, trying to put those thoughts as far away from herself as possible. She’d focus on her night with the brunette. Although, she was exceedingly nervous, and she had no idea why. Maybe it was Ashley’s tone of voice when she asked her to stay the night. Almost as if the brunette was maybe implying something to the night’s activities.

When the blonde considered what she may have meant she could feel a blush invade her cheeks. Of course she was ready for that. Hell, she’d lay awake at night and it’d be all she thought about. She trusted Ashley completely. She…loved her. Oh, yes, it was definitely there. The blonde was just afraid to say anything, in fear that she would scare the older girl off. And at this point, life without Ashley seemed pointless.
