Darkness of the Heart – (Chapter: 1)

Spencer looked around and took a deep breath…Columbus High… It had all happened so fast. The move from L.A to Ohio, her parents divorcing because her dad cheated on her mom. Paula had tolfd Spencer without any warning that she would have to leave everything, everyone she loved in L.A to come to this place out in the middle of nowhere. Despite the difference in size Columbus High, Spencer observed, was organized the same way as any high school. Looking around the ridiculously small quad the blonde saw that the tables and the people sitting at them were segregated in the same way. The chher-leaders and jocks sat together at one table while the punks and the skaters sat at another. Spencer wondered where she would end up sitting. There was one girl who sat by herself at a corner table in the quad. This in itself was unusual seeing as everyone was normally in one group or another. To highten her strangness she was clad all in black, even her hair was as dark as midnight. She was crouched low over a notebook in which she was writing furiously. Her hair hung off the side of her head hiding her face from view. Several tattoos marked her skin and her ears were covered in huge headphones that were attached to a CD player.

Spencer’s examination was interrupted as her phone rang. She smiled as she saw who it was. She was still smiling when she answered the phone.

"Hello?" she asked in mock confusion.

"Spencer! Are you okay? Have they hurt you? Did they try to get you to join some freakish farmers cult?" Spencer laughed as Debbie’s frantic and worried voice floated throught the end of her phone.

    "I’m fine Debbie…"

"Fine?! Spencer you are out there in the middle of fucking nowhere…without me! How the hell can you be fine?" once again the blonde laughed as she imagined the pout her best friend was wearing right now.

    "Debbie I’m fine really."

"Hmph. Well I have a message for you!" Spencer cringed and almost dropped her phone in pain as half a dozen girl’s voices screamed through the phone. Spencer could make out the words ‘love’ and ‘Spencer’ so she was not completely confused when she brought the phone back up to her ear to listen to Debbie.
