Coming Undone – (Chapter: Ten – Lovers and Friends)

Spencer looked at the seating arrangements, her two options being sit next to Gia or Ashley; neither seemed appealing.  “Hey Ash.”

Ash looked up at her former lover and tried not to give anything away as she smiled and stood up.  She wrapped her arms around Spencer and pulled her in for a tight hung.  Natalie pretended not to notice when Spencer’s eyes fluttered shut at the embrace and she weakly held on to Ashley; the hug lasting slightly longer than most platonic exchanges.  Ashley sat back down, with a smug smirk on her face.

Spencer looked around and caught the death stare Natalie was giving her, but anger was overcoming her to the point that she didn’t care.  She couldn’t believe Natalie would agree to this.  Clearly she enjoyed getting her feelings hurt.

“Gia, don’t you want to sit next to Ash?”

Gia waved her hand, clearly unaware of the tension around her.  “Go ahead.  I want to be across so I can look into Ashley’s beautiful face.”

Spencer silently gagged but sat down all the same, while Natalie sat at the head of the table with Spencer on her right.

“Isn’t today just wonderful,” Gia started, her eyes bright with blissful happiness.  She looked out the window at a bird passing by and smiled.  “Just beautiful.”

Ashley grinned at how much Gia enjoyed the simple things and how unaware she was of the very awkward situation, but being in such close proximity to Spencer today was making Ashley shift in her seat.  Or maybe it was Natalie.  The last and only time she had seen the girl was when she yelled at her a month ago.

“You guys have such a striking resemblance to each other.” Gia said suddenly, looking back and forth between Natalie and Ashley.

Spencer dropped her head and shook it.

Ashley jaw worked overtime, popping her temple.

    Natalie looked elsewhere.

Kyla choked on the water she was sipping.  “Right?  I was just thinking that!”
Spencer shot her foot out and kicked Kyla in the shin.

“Oww!”  Kyla reached for her leg.  “Did you just kick me?!”

Spencer brought her glass to her lips and shook her head no.
