Coming Undone – (Chapter: Fourteen {End of the Road})
Ashley thought for a moment. Kyla really wasn’t the person she should be upset with. “I’m sorry. I didn’t expect to go see Spencer…but when she wasn’t in class…I don’t know. Something came over me. Like I started thinking, ‘what if I never see her again’. I just wanted to make things right and somehow I found my way to her doorstep.
“Well, I’m glad you found your way. Even if it was at the expense of others.”
“Way to make me feel bad. What was I supposed to do? Someone was going to be hurt no matter which choice I made.”
Kyla shrugged. “It doesn’t really matter now. Gia knows and that’s over. Does Natalie know?”
Ashley let out a deep breath and nodded. “She came over to the dorm while I was still there.”
“Sheesh…and I thought the way Gia found out was bad.”
“You’re not helping.”
“What do you care? You don’t like Natalie anyway.”
“I don’t…but if I’m honest with myself, it’s only because she was dating Spencer. There’s nothing really wrong with the girl and I feel horrible that we had to hurt two people in the process.”
“Look…as much as I want to make you feel bad about this, because I’m still kind of pissed at you, but at the end of the day, you and Spencer belong together. You two should come with some type of warning disclaimer that lets other ladies know that they don’t stand a chance.”
“I really didn’t think I’d ever get her back though.”
“I know. But now that you got her, don’t fuck it up,” Kyla warned. “You can only break the girl so many times…”
“She hurt me too Kyla,” Ashley protested.
“I’m not saying that she didn’t Ashley. I was there. I know. But I’m not her sister. I’m yours. So I’m telling you…Don’t fuck up.”
The girls sat in silence as Kyla absentmindedly flipped through channels and Ashley stared off, out to the view of LA from the window. She wondered what Spencer was doing at the moment; perhaps having the same conversation with Chelsea. Ashley had left Spencer, half-sleeping, in her bed and promised to call later.
