Cheaters Never Prosper – (Chapter: One- Putting The Heat In Cheat)

Spencer opened her mouth to reply but was interrupted by a loud banging on the front door. As if on cue there was a man on the front door step, bellowing Spencer’s name. The two girl’s exchanged frightened looks, frozen in momentary shock and fear.

“SPENCER! I KNOW YOUR IN THERE!” The man continued to rage, causing the door to rattle on it’s hinges. Ashley finally snapped out of deer and headlights mode, jumping to her feet and pulling Spencer up with her.

“Follow me out the back door, my car is parked in the alley- We need to get out of here and call the police.” Ashley spoke in a hushed tone, earning a frightened nod from Spencer before she lead the way out to her sub-compact. They rushed inside, locking the doors immediately upon entry and pulling silently out into the street. Apparently Nick couldn’t hear, because the echoes of his yells were still audible at the stop sign a few hundred feet from the girl’s doorstep.

“Ashley, I am so sorry you are having to deal with all of this…” Spencer spoke as she dialed 911, her voice quivering enough to be audible. Ashley opened her mouth to assure the girl it wasn’t a problem but stopped when Spencer began fervently relaying the details of the past few minutes into the speaker of her cell phone. By the time the girl had hung up they’d both forgotten about the topic.

“The police are on their way. They recommended we stay in a safe place until they call us back.” The blonde spoke, looking tense as she stared out the window, “He sounded so angry…”

“You’re going to be okay Spencer, I promise.” Ashley comforted, suddenly feeling the irresistible urge to take away every bad feeling inside the girls near perfect body, “Because you and me are going on a road trip.”

“We’re what?” Spencer gasped, more than shocked. The most intimate thing the two had ever shared besides mind blowing sex was dinner. For Ashley to suggest something like this was completely unheard of.

“We are going on a road trip and driving until we.. Or I.. Can drive no more.” The brunette spoke, smiling a brave smile over at Spencer and waggling her eyebrows playfully, “It’s an adventure.”

“Ash… Your insane.” Spencer replied, still puzzled despite the temptation of a very enticing offer. “I mean, what about your job? You said you had to work tomorrow.”

“I think the diner will last a day without me. Come on, I could use a trip… Please?” Ashley spoke, her voice rising an octave as she gave a broad smile. No one could resist the smile. No one.

“Alright, I guess adventure it is.” Conceded the blonde to the delight of the other girl. It was 1:30am, they had a full tank of gas, and about fifty dollars between to two of them- But damn it they were going on an adventure.

“So, where you want to go?” Ashley inquired, speeding southbound on the empty 5 freeway, “I was thinking Mexico.”

“Mexico sounds good to me.” Agreed Spencer, and just like that they had a destination. Granted, a bit of a shoddy destination, but a destination nonetheless.

It took about 2 ½ hours to get to the border from Los Angeles, the sky still dark but just beginning to grow lighter by the time the clock hit 5am. An hour and a half later they found themselves in the middle of nowhere, the desert spanning out around them in all directions. Pulling to the side of the road facing east Ashley shifted the car into park and stared out at the horizon. The sun was just beginning to rise, casting it’s orange glow onto the world.

“It’s beautiful.” Commented Spencer, staring in awe as she leaned into Ashley’s shoulder slightly.

“Yes indeed.” Replied the brunette, dreamy eyed as she stared off into the distance. Looking down she found Spencer looking up at her, those full lips slightly parted and blue eyes like liquid. Gently she lowered her head and brought their mouths together, moving slowly and carefully like the sun creeping over the desert. There was no need to rush, everything would be bathed in light eventually.

Then Spencer uttered the 7 most magnificent words the brunette was certain she’d ever heard, “Hey Ash… Do these seats go back?”
