Broken Promises and Shattered Hearts – (Chapter: Chapter 1)

I look back at my life, which is filled with regret and broken promises. A piece of me died that night. I wondered what would have happened, if I had just heard her out. Would I have listened? Would I have forgiven her? Would I have swallowed my pride? But then again, what would I forgive her for? She had done nothing wrong. It was MY fault. All of it. She tried to explain to me that night, but my mind and heart refused her. I pushed her away. I left her. And worse yet, I turned my back on her, when I promised I never would.

It was prom night. It was suppose to be fun. Memorable. The one special night every girl looks forward to in high school. A magical night. But there was no magic. No fun. Memorable it was. The memories of that night still haunt me to this day. It was the night I lost my love, my soul. I think back to all the good times we had. The laughs. The fights. The tears. The make-up sex. OH MY GOD the make-up sex! That was the best. Because no matter how apart we felt from one another after fighting, it was in that bed, wrapped in each others arms where we felt whole again. Where nothing could touch us. Not even him.

We went to prom. We danced. Had fun. Did everything normal couples did at prom. Then it happened. So, quickly. I asked her if I could have the final dance. I was happy that Glen finally looked like he was starting to except our relationship, that I never even noticed at first the exchange between them. He held her hands, she held his. I looked at their entwined hands, and then back at her. She must have read my face because when I took off, she came after me. I stopped to look at her. I looked at him. I hated him. I wanted to kill him. I wanted him to hurt as much as I was at that moment. He took the one thing I loved away from me, and he never once to this day said he was sorry. He took life from me. My life. My love. My reason for being.
