Better Than Running at Night – (Chapter: Prologue/1)
Prologue
Never had my heart beat this fast. The pounding resounded throughout my body falling in tune with my fast moving feet. Each step seemed to take me another mile away. The wind lashed out against my face. My hair, restrained back in my pony tail was begging to be released but I wouldn’t let it. I want to feel every breeze, every gust of air. The moon floated above my head shining a path for me down the darkened street. I picked up the pace my feet moving faster, if possible.
I was running away from my problems, from my fears, but most of all from the day itself. The wind, the moon, the dark all served as erasers. Deleting the pencil marks on my thoughts and my feelings. Clearing my mind. I dread the sun. I dread the day, when the shadows are created by the painful heat of the sun and not the comforting softness of the moon. Leaving me in a state of strife. To me there is nothing better than running at night.
Chapter 1
The brunette sighed as the door opened slowly and she tiredly threw her keys precariously in the bowl on the nearby table.
"I’m back Lance!" the brunette screamed into the seemingly empty house. She waited for a response but when she didn’t hear one she headed towards the stairs cautiosly preparing herself for anything, it was her nature.
Climbing them slowly she went up and knocked on the door to Lance’s bedroom. Again when she heard no reponse she rudely kicked down the door. She shook her head laughing silently to herself worrying. Lance wasn’t in any trouble on the contrary he was sprawled out on the small bed.
She quietly walked over to the bedside of the little boy, bending down silently she kissed the top of the raven haired boy’s head.
The guilt overwhelmed her as she watched the comfortably sleeping boy. She felt very bad for leaving him alone all the time at night. She hardly even got to see him because he had school during the day and she had work at night.
She knew the boy tried to stay awake every night, waiting for her mother, patiently looking forward to the point when she came home but he never succeeded.
