Chapter 1

Spencer wasn’t entirely comfortable walking around the over sized mansion alone, but after the night she’d had she felt a certain kind of calmness around her that she would never be able to describe in words.

She knew that there was well over a dozen other people staying in the estate and yet as she walked down the never ending hallways she couldn’t help but notice how empty it was.

Spencer was considering just returning to her room until Ashley came to get her, when the sounds of muffled voices caught her attention. Following the sound she came to a door she remembered being told was Ashley’s father, Raif Davies, office.  

She knew she shouldn’t be snooping, but as she got closer she couldn’t help but over hear the angry voice of her new lover coming from within the closed room. Nervously sucking the silver ring in her bottom lip into her mouth, she eased the door open as quietly as she could and peaked in the two inch crack she had made. Standing with her arms defensively crossed in front of her chest Ashley was glancing back and forth between her Father and her best friend Madison, who sat on the small couch in the office with what could only be described as a smug look on her face.

“What the hell is this?”  She heard Ashley say forcefully. Spencer could see that she was upset by whatever was going on and she wanted nothing more then to storm into the office and protect her from everything, but something held her back.

“Come on Ash, enough is enough already. This whole thing has gone too far, you’ve proved your point.” Madison said in that condescending tone that drove Spencer nuts.

Ashley’s posture stiffened at her words and she turned her attention to her Father, when he puts a firm hand on her shoulder, clearly letting her know that she was to listen to what was being said and not interrupt.

“I told him everything,” Madison continued, “all about you bringing that girl here to prove you could embarrass him if he didn’t stop trying to control you.”

Spencer felt her heart leap into her throat. She was torn between wanting to burst into the room and tell them all to go to hell and giving into the tears forming in her eyes and running as far away as she could. Instead she stayed frozen in place, unable to move, while the scene continued to unfold in front of her.
